Ok, so I saw this list that Gametrailers made and it got me thinking...
Who ARE the greatest game developers?

I think Miyamoto's and Carmack's spots are well deserved..And it is nice to see that they mentioned System Shock and Deus Ex as well...

Interesting how so many of these guys are from Japanese..

Still, it is a great list... it shows how much of an impact Japanese and PC devs have had on gaming...

What do you guys think of the list?

What would YOU say are the greatest game creators?
 
peter should be there for his older games. they definately were important.

whats missing is richard garriot at least.

He shares a name with Howard Scott Warshaw, the fellow who designed ET for the Atari. One has his shitty games sent to a landfill and the other one should.
 
No Sid Meier, no Richard Garriot, no Tim Schafer, no Ron Gilbert, no Ken or Roberta Williams, no Two Guys from Andromeda, no Gary Grigsby, no Alexey Pajitnov, but instead a shitload of Japanese names?

Well lets see, as far as the Japanese guys go...

Shigeru Miyamoto - Mario,Zelda,Donkey Kong, StarFox. A few others as well but I cannot think of them. Enough said on that one however, he earns the number one spot.

Hideo Kojima - Lets see... Snatcher, Policenauts, Zone of the Enders. Oh and a little game called Metal Gear Solid.

Shinji Mikami - Resident Evil.

Gunpei Yokoi - Had to wiki this guy, no idea who he was. Gameboy creator and deep involvement with the Metroid series. Never been a big fan of the games to be honest but millions are, I understand why he is on there.

Hironobu Sakaguchi - Final Fantasy

Keiji Inafune - Did not know this guy either. Megaman, Onimusha, and Dead Rising. Going to take a wild swing and guess he is on there for his involvement with Megaman.


Pretty solid list in my opinion.
 
The absence of Sid Meier makes this list a complete joke, IMO.

Although, I do agree that every Japanese developer listed there deserves to be on that list.

Molyneux though? Sweet christ, he hasn't been relevant in over a decade.

Yeah, well, it's been a shitty decade. If you ask me, any developer who created outstanding and innovative games in the Golden Age of '80s and '90s is far more relevant to gaming than someone who rose to prominence in the era of mediocrity and creative impotence that is the last decade. Molyneux is the man who co-founded Bullfrog and created Populous, Theme Park and Dungeon Keeper, that count among the greatest and most influential games of all time. If he decided to box his own shit and sell it in video game stores as olfactory game experience, I wouldn't care, because he has more than earned his spot on any Top 10 Greatest Game Developers list, and a thousand Fables and Black&Whites won't undo his achievements.
 
If you people think this list really is shitty, why don't you make your own and post it here...

And the truth is that there are waaaaay to many devs to just put 10 as the best but if you HAD to limit to 10....what would YOU chooses...

It's easy to bash this Gametrailers list but it is much harder to create your own....
