I find the threat of a real world puinch in the mouth exhilirating.

Fuck social faux pas and self marginalizing, more people need to get punched in the mouth and smile while its happening.

It kinda sucks, when going for a walk is more like going on patrol, just because the government lacks hygiene.

What I've realized is MMO's are a great amazing distraction and tool for survival for those of us who are not getting laid. Without the MMO's, loser suicide rates would be sky high.

Whenever I have a long period of time where I'm not getting my dick wet, you can bet your ass I'm playing some kind of MMO.

Its pure sanity for 15$ a month.

Or should I say Pseudo-Sanity.

There's nothing sane about an MMO, in fact I consider WOW a game you give people you hate, that game has destroyed marriages and stolen away all but the staunchest friends at times, and generally people get so absorbed in the game that it's very hard, almost to the point of requiring 'intervention' to save the person from it's clutches when they get in too deep.

Now ask yourself, would there be any difference if the person was gambling instead?
I'd reckon no, it's not the games fault people can't handle their lives.

True, however this 'game' doesn't come with any warnings about it's addictive nature, and I have NEVER seen a game hook people like WOW, it's bloody electronic crack pure and simple.

If I give you WOW, you best be asking what's wrong because that game is evil incarnate dressed up in a cartoony world of swords and sorcery.

Pure... Electronic... Crack...

And people thought everquest was bad...

Hehehe, nothing in the game itself is addictive, the reason people play it is because of the people I think.
I know I did'nt continue to play once the people I liked to play with were gone, and then again, I played it every day for about two years for 8+ hours a day.

There's 9 million people playing WoW, if there was any truth in your statements I reckon that we'd hear about it more in the news.

I think there's been someone here in Sweden that was actually taken under custody or something like that, since he/she was completely obcessed.
Then again, I don't consider it "evil" that people don't want to stop playing it, who wants to stop playing in the worlds biggest interactive chatbox?

No offense but I think the cause and effect are backwards here. People who get "addicted" to video games are looking for an escape already. Some way to get away from their lives for whatever reason - bad home life, bad job, bad self-esteem, or a million other things. If WoW wasn't around they'd find another escape hatch. I've always felt it should be "Demand and Supply" rather than the other way around.

This is sort of like saying that pornography leads to rape and all the other nasty things. If someone is predisposed toward such behavior, they're not going to sit around and try to find Waldo. Naturally they would gravitate toward pornography - but it's already in their head, the porn doesn't create it out of thin air.

This is the same with anything, including MMO's. Hell, remember when the media tried to blame school shootings on black trenchcoats? Total bullplop. Either it's already in you or it isn't.

Hmmm. Might make a good Gatorade commercial.

True, I feel the same way about alcoholism, however there's something that WOW does to people, above and beyond simple lack of self control, it's quite freaky to witness it happen.

As for the married couple, they were together for over 30 years, then the husband started playing WOW, I'm sorry but I consider that a travesty that can really only be pinned on WOW's doorstep, 30 years then it's given up for an MMO?

Even gambling takes longer to affect the family than WOW.

Granted, I'm still a bachelor (and GOD does my family hate that for some reason - apparently I should have gotten married and created some human larvae about 20 years ago). So in my opinion, having someone else in my house for 30 years would make me want an escape. Of course, if need be I still know how to run.

Seriously, RPG's are intended to let you be another person for awhile. Some folks need that escape from reality more than others and I know I'm probably in the upper bracket of that particular category. Hell, I've known people who could reasonably be considered addicted to the internet as a whole.

Basically, I consider WoW and other online games as someone's personal solution rather than the cause of the core problem.
