Trailer features

Hey

Are there any programs which allow you to save movie-clips in games? I would like to take some clips from Fallout 1, to demonstrate some features of my mod in a small trailer.

Camtasia seems to work with fallout.

Cool! It is possible to use camtasia (for capturing AVI) to make an MVE (AVI2MVE),
which can be played in game via script (for cut scenes). This didn't work with the
default settings on camtasia, but setting the video settings to:

Compressor: Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec V1

Gives me an AVI that converts to MVE with no problems. The resulting AVI is here.
I converted to MVE using AVI2MVE then concatenated the MVE player stub:

copy /b w32stub.lib + capture2.mve capture2.exe

Now clicking the executable plays it in MVE format.
But in the game, the movie can be launched in a script using play_gmovie.

This will add a large download to the game though. Cant you just 'script a move' instead of recording one? But then again I suspose for an intro movie you could do this instead of rending a new one from scratch

Well I think there are some interesting possibilities with camtasia. There are probably some things you can do while playing that could not be scripted (like how I showed player inventory). You could show the player dying like max payne hee hee. You could show part of a game being played in an intro movie. Also, camtasia could be very useful for making intro movies in general (not just game captures). You can make powerpoint slides and capture with camtasia as you cycle through them. This has been done with NWN (yeah I know NWN sucks). Since camtasia captures whatever is on the screen, you can use various tools to make different parts of movies and combine them together easily ...
