Are they going to create a new bathroom for the lesbians too? Gays? transsexuals?
I don't think segregation is a good way of dealing with this situation.
well as they said. the normal students were acting like pricks to them whenever they tried to use either of the bathrooms. so. meh.
apartheid strikes again
but i cant really say how i would react, because i dont know any of em first hand
Hm don't know if it's apartheid. Come on, the article states that "tranvestites, gays and transsexuals are generally well accepted in Thai society"
I see it more as a favour to them than segregation.
Other than that, this shit's hilarious.
It's their choice (or not, depending on the case), they don't deserve to be treated like shit for it.
It does put the school in a difficult position tho'. They are acting to the benefit of their students, but they can't be seen to be encouraging them in something that could be seen as abnormal by their parents.
As Eyemaster said, it does also bring up the problem of other groups wanting a bathroom/toilet of their own, but I'm sure they can find some solution for it.
So they should have unisex toilets then?
In thailand, Kathooey(sp?) is often known as "the third sex", it's a part of their culture, not just a new "fad".
Okay, the thing I don't understand is the new symbol, "the intertwined male and female symbols" (which I think is a rather poor choice of words, sounds like the symbols are having sex). Now, to my mind, the female symbol is simply the male symbol with a skirt; so what is this new, third symbol that combines the two? Of course, they most likely do things differently in Thailand, still, curiosity has the best of me.
Seems like a waste though, an entire bathroom, with four stalls, just for 15 people? I somehow doubt the school has 400 normal stalls. Then there is the consideration that for this entire school, there is just one bathroom for these transvestite students. It could be a long walk to the bathroom, depending on how the school is structured. Just practical considerations, no type of social commentary.
How do Western transvestites deal with similar situations, in public buildings and the like?
I kinda assumed they meant the circle with the cross/arrow coming off it. Though I can never remember which sex is which.
Hehe. Explains a lot.
It's easy though: the males are the ones who actually want to talk to you.
Maybe for you yes. I must not be as pretty as you.
...and, yes, I left that bit in on purpose.
It was actually gonna be "I can't remember which is which", but I thought it'd be funnier t'other way.
That's an interesting question. I think it depends on how they are dressed and the size of the bathroom queue. And their female hormonal (estrogen) level too. And if they have tits.
I think they generally use the lady's bathroom. it's cleaner then the males bathroom. I saw it when I was in the high school. err.... on a movie.
Since we are talking about bathrooms and weird stuff.... What do you think about this product?
I want my own bathroom too! With blackjack! And hookers! In fact - forget the bathroom and blackjack!
Can't you see EyeMaster7, tis' for holding up ye beer.
And you can't bruise yourself if tou hit it with ye butt by accident, which is the case with the common steel hanger.
Funny. I always thought of the male symbol as the female symbol with a boner.
The astrological Mars/Venus symbols... that makes more sense. I don't recall ever seeing bathrooms marked with such though. Which is rather weird, since I've seen bathrooms indicated in obscure Latin (of course, everyone always went into the wrong bathroom).
As opposed to your comment WaterGirl, I'm not sure what that means. Did you take my comment to be male chauvinistic? I assure you, that is not how I meant it. Simply, usually the figures have the singular distinction of having pants/skirt.
Chauvinism from both sexes is ridiculous. We're all people, you know, unlike those Africans.
I didn't think of your comment as being chauvenistic, I was just stating how I thought of the symbols and remembered which was what. I was thinking about the first two symbols which follow. I could see how the female symbol in this case (the first symbol) looks like the male symbol with a skirt. The third symbol here is the symbol for transexuals, the fourth is for transgendered. Maybe they are using one of these as a sort of special distinction.
Edit: The site I found didn't have a symbol for transvestites. If it did, I would have posted it.
Whacky. Who came up with those?
Uhh....are there anyone who actually buys this stuff?
No, the female symbol is the female in a skirt, while the transvestite symbol must be the male in a skirt. Plain and logical, too
