Nothing misfortunate about it. I know of, besides myself, plenty of people who use old-school oils and a canvas for painting. Traditional media isn't anything short or superior to digital painting, it's just, y'know, different.
And that thing was probably done in Corel Painter, in half an hour. Even if it was made with oils or acrylic paint, it still looks like shit to me.
