There is also a win32 version of UFO:Enemy Unknown out there. It was in the Collectors Edition of X-Com, and came with a few PC Magazines. It runs fine in Windows XP...

I can't get it to run though dosbox, must be some problem with the sound blaster emulation.

And dumbed down meaning that there may be no base buidling, or money managing. Which I also enjoyed, but I can live without them if the rest of the game is good.

Pity it doesn't work for you, Dove. I can play it here with sound, albeit with some slowness.
I'd hate to lose base and money management ; it would end up as UFO : Tactics, and we wouldn't want that, eh?

I have a REALLY old version of UFO: Enemy Unknown, and it runs real fine on XP using VDMSound, a handy dandy program that helps run other DOS games on XP as well. Get it at http://ntvdm.cjb.net

I finally found a copy of the game that the sound works (edition that shipped with PCgamer mag.), however it runs too fast and the slowdown utils I find only work on computers 700mhz and slower I need one that will support 2.4ghz.

And I think the tactical gameplay was the most important to me, so this new game might be great without the management options.
