Uh OH!

First time out of the vault
Okay guys, look at the example list here.

In case you can't figure it out, Tv Tropes is calling just about every fallout fan "Fan Dumb". Despite the circumstances of a different developer, ignored game plot and established history, and FPS-RPG gameplay.

Well they have the right to call some of the more thorough Fallout fans 'Fan Dumb', just as we have the right to call them a bunch of idiots.

They don't care we say that, we don't care what they say.

It used to be even worse. The funny thing is that "justification" - arguing why something doesn't count as an instance of a trope - is explicitly forbidden there. So I changed the original "Some have said Fo3 does this but we know it'll be awesome, Bethesda rules and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot" into "We don't know yet but we do have indications they're dropping the game's core elements". Like, in line with the purpose of the page. Of course, that's when people on the discussion page decided to throw a fit:

Okay, could someone tell me what these supposed core elements they're dropping are? The only thing current previews indicate they're seriously dropping is it being isometric and turn-based. And I could certainly see how you could consider that a core element of the game... if you were a drooling, subhuman cretin. It's entirely trivial to the game, and they seem to be keeping the tone and atmosphere, as well as more iconic gameplay elements, such as the SPECIAL system and called shots. They're even throwing an AP system into their real-time game, specifically to appease fans who want it to be more like the first two. I hate being a fan of Fallout, because I'm one of about 3 in the world that aren't subject to among the most horrifyingly intense Fan Dumb in the world.

After this some other editor decided that the whole paragraph should be removed and I was OK with that. But needless to say, the people who wrote the original text have edited the Fan Dumb back in since, more surreptitiously.

I'd like to think that the fallout fans here are not "Fan Dumb", but when you begin flaming instead of explaining exactly how we aren't, then we could very well be "Fan Dumb". I agree that Bethesda's Fallout 3 will almost certainly suck, but I've seen members not only delcare this, but attack anything that has merit, attack developers like Blizzard for Diablo 2 and other such things for daring to call their game an "Action-RPG". This does give the impression that we are fan dumb. Let us set out not to be.

Their own definition of Fan Dumb is "a fan who brings nothing constructive to discussion". Do you think this describes us adequately?

We've been over this before. Such labels can be thrown at us no matter what we do, unless we bend over backwards with self-censorship. At that point we'd just be Dumb.

That is understandable. However, bashing something unrealted to Fallout because it is not Fallout is just retarded. We actually have points, which makes us not Fan Dumb. But to consider the entire community of Tv Tropes stupid because of this one comment is hopelessly, well, retarded. As it is for them to consider all of NMA, TUV, and most Fallout sites Fan Dumb. Obviously there is an underbelly somewhere, but the definition as shown there is far too broad.

Let's not, then. I enjoy TV Tropes immensely from time to time.
