United Kingdom VS U.S.

I'd like to get a UK copy of a game sometime just to see if there's any discernible difference. ToEE came out here in the States without any children and that's definitely not because it was the same version that Atari intended to send out to Germany. The government need not step in if the license holder exerts pressure on the developer. Rotten WotC.

One thing curious on the children issue is that they only removed the sprites, so the children are indeed there, people just can`t see them. They can even steal from you :)

Yeah took me ages to work out where my stuff was going to first time I played and you don't want to know how long I searched for the missing kid from Modoc.

Curiously JA2 was released over here with kids and you can just as easily kill them with stray fire. The only thing is there's no child killer trait in JA2.

You know, somewhere along the line, we'd be better off trying to figure out a better way to keep sick people from preying on kids than to make games without children. It's not that kids are in a game that's the problem. It's that some folks want to kill the children in games. ...And the real problem is that, apparently, some folks associate violence against children in games with actual violence against children altogether. *shaking my head*

Ah, comeon. My first girl friend was a French foreign exchange student. That was one minor I didn't want to shoot! w00t.

Where was I? Oh, yeah, the French seem to have a pretty big stake in computer gaming. Just a little, maybe.

Was there a German version of Fallout?

Oh yes there was, translated version of FO1, that's for sure. But I don't remember about the kids, but the censoring was in violence level - it couldn't be set to max blood, so even if you got critical with minigun, they'd just die normally ( what a rip off ).
But here is what they do : they used to start game in english fallout version, then save it with max blood setting, then load that save game in german fallout and it worked.
Ih think the German translation of Fallout1 was finished when Fallout2 was released...
I hate the German Version, the translation is partially pretty bad and the censorship is stupid. They just deleted all death animations, so every enemy just falls down, no matter if you shoot him with a 10mm-pistol or a Minigun. There are several gore-patches, but that didn't really work...

In Germany, we've got an index of "Jugendgefährdende Medien" (mmh, that means "media able to harm children/youths" or something like that) and every Game, CD, Book... on this index is not allowed to be sold in shops, because minors could see it. You are allowed to buy it if you are 18 Years old, but you have to ask for it. And it's not allowed to make any advertisement for stuff on that index.

Just as a sidenote, the whole game-banning thing in Greece was just a ridiculous thing the government tried to pass, but it was put to rest more than 4-5 months ago when 3 internet cafe owners won a trial against the state, thus killing the whole thing and ridiculing the government once more :P
(elections coming this spring, and I can vote, yay )

Okay, now the thread can be put to rest again :P
