Van Buren on SS

Shengarty

First time out of the vault
I was wondering if anyone here played a game called Silent Storm? I think that game engine would make a perfect fallout game. I know it's unlikely anyone want to make Van Buren using the SS engine, but what you yous think if Van Buren was build using that engine?

Moved to Fallout general modding.

SS does have some good TB combat, but why wouldn't the Fallout engine be a more obvious candidate? Also, is SS even that moddable?

Maybe...but you need to implement Fallout skill system, and many other things. sounds like a suicidal task to any modder out there. :D

As far as I remenber... it is moddable... but not sure how much can you mod it.

The people who made that game also made H&S which is an RPG.

Just wondering... that's all

true... that's why I dont see it's gonna happen... or happen anytime soon.

Van Buren could be the most easily done as a Fallout 2 mod, it would be great fun. A bit of scripting for the workshops, a shitload of new graphics, and lots of dialogues. It wouldn't need more contributors than the three tc mods out there. Maybe after those are completed...

VB design documents aren't finished AFAIK. There's a bunch of plot related material and dialog missing (did it ever exist?). You people should first finish that part of the "revival" project then focus on the engine, etc.

From what I saw and heard, BGE guys have already stolen from Van Buren DDs as much cool shit as possible. :D

And much more flexible and influenceable world (eg. city endings) than in FO1/2 as well.
I found certain places (like Denver) rather unreal for any modding group (even the modding group of epic proportions 8-)) for various reasons.

I hope your story turns out to be as good as VBs was :)

I was thinking a lot about Denver, it could be done in the same way as Reno, but yeah, the feel won't be the same as in a 3d world.

Funny, I never managed to find out what was VBs plot except for the fact that you're a prisoner in the start and then you launch some nukes in the end.

Well, the design docs are accessible, surely it's a lot of reading, but you can get quite a clear picture.

Nope, at least not so epic.

But we believe the subplots might be equally matched.

Anyway, VB is dead, whereas BGE is here! Well, pro tempore. :)

So, you want to release everything you have on 24.12.08? :P

I think I've suggested this before. Yes, SS's engine seems perfect for a new (real) Fallout sequel. We don't know how moddable it is, though, for complex open-ended gameplay. Silent Storm only has combat going for it. Everything else is pretty terrible.
