Van Buren

First time out of the vault
Well I bought both Fallout 1 and 2 on their release days.....they go down as two of my all time favpurite games and I've been playing games on a computer since '83 (good old ELite on the BBC B 32k).

Anyway though it's old news to all of you I have only just discovere that Fallout 3 was going to be similar and not the Action\RPG\FPS it became...I donwloaded the tech demo and had a little blast on that solitary map...afterwards I felt huge disapointment....if only...if only.

From what I've read sitting somehwere is pretty much a near finished game....why of why Bethedsa can't get the original developers to finish it and release it on Steam at an indy to mid range price range. Surely it can't damage the modern Fallout image....infact all the old school would love it and the newer players would also enjoy it and I'm sure take it as a different style of Fallout game rather than compitition.

I honestly feel that with the current buzz for retro style games (ie Terreria) there is money to be made if Van Buren is completed.

Anyway as I said it's old news to al of you..but to me it's a fresh wound.

Maybe a petition and getting hold of the old Black Isle developers aswell as the main folks behind the original game would help.

We get a post like this every two to three months, I reckon. In short: it's not going to happen.

Black Isle doesn't exist anymore.

Van Buren's engine is horrible outdated by todays standard, it's a pain to work with and most likely nobody really wants to work with it again.

Also, the game wasn't *that much* done yet. I think Sawyer was it who said that the engine alone would have required at least additional 6 months of work to be in ok-shape.

Beside this, Bethesda has no interest in such things. It's just not "what they do best."

Never say never thats what I say......one day the Fallout franchise will fade in popularity and then someone will pick up the rights (hopefully a bunch of old school devoted RPG ganers\developers) and we will have a new and true successor...

Well thats my dream anyway...I was about 26 27 when F1 came out and I eargerly loaded it up...I'm 40 next Wednesday....maybe for it's 25 anniversary it will happen...I shall be just over 50....

Lets grab some pitchforks and storm Bethesda's offices before they format all drives with the Van Buren assets saved on them. For the glory of the FRANCHISE!
