Victoria: An Empire Under the Sun

Why must you tempt me? ;_;

I spent the past two years trying to break out of these hour-turn games, and now you're gonna pull me back in...

Looks good. But if you're into those types of games, I strongly recomend Civilization 3 instead. But I like games like Fallout or Kill Switch more, although, Civilization is a good game.

Haven't tried this one, but Paradox do produce some kick ass games, plus they're Swedish, so I guess I have to give it a go.

Civilization is great and fun, but not realistic enough.

...

Since when did games have to be realistic?

Would you rather it take an entire week of planning using maps and charts for the year's foreign and economic policy or would you rather it only take you 30 minutes - an hour?

Sorry, but Civlization 3 is
A) Not as good as Civ2
B) Has nothing to do with any kind of history (Assyrian Bowman shooting down Greek ICBMS)
C) Has nothing to do with any kind of realisim, for that matter
D) Is not balanced at all.
I would recormend GalCiv, Civ2 and EU2 and obviously Vicky instead.

I had a look at the site but it closed down Internet Explorer when I tried to shut down the pop-up. Sounds like an interesting game though.
Has anyone played Medieval: Total War? Now there's an hour-turn game if I've ever seen one!

Civilization had some bugs, I found it troubling when swordsmen took out my modern armors. But that is why there is the editor. And yes, it does have to do with some realism. Haven't played the previous versions though, I won't bother but from what I see and hear, the third plus all of its expansion packs are much better.

Historically inacurate. I liked it, but history had nothing to do with it.

Who cares? The whole point in controlling a civilization or an army is to succeed where others had failed. Do you think people fight as the French at Waterloo just so they can lose?

You're putting far too much emphasis on realism rather than allowing yourself to have fun.

I remember losing a battle between an aircraft carrier and the classical stone-age warrior in civ2. Anyways, personally, I think civ3 is better... But can't compete with Alpha Centauri :)

I hear that Galactic Civ is much better than Alpha Centauri. I haven't checked it out yet so I wouldn't know.

Galactic Civilizations is a brilliant Space-Civ game. Though there's no real difference between the races other than government and personality, which reduces the roleplaying aspect, it is a brilliant game nonetheless, and I highly recommend it.

Alpha Centauri is basically a futuristic Civ 2. And a Godly one at that.

Just don't buy the Call to Power Civilization series.

Brrr, the flashbacks of what happens to a beloved name when it gets raped in an inferior ripoff. Civilization was lucky to get reclaimed by Sid Meir before it was too late. They even went on to produce Civ III.

Can we hope the same for a true Fallout III?

That Troika will come back? Hopefully not.

Sure the first game was brilliant, but considering Troika's track record, and the first one, I'd rather not have to deal with clunky interfaces and terrible bugs, thank you.

I didn't say jack about any companies whatsoever. I said the rightful hands, which would be the individuals who were vital in its creation rather than a group of programmers.

Exactly. That's my kind of game. The kind of that is accurate in every aspect. That's why is simply love Europa Universalis II! It can be pretty tedious to balance and manage every single aspect of running an empire - warfare, diplomacy, economy, colonization, culture, religion etc... But in spite of its complexity, the game is so fun and addictive that I can't stop playing once I start!

And yeah, Alpha Centauri really is godly... My favorite is original Civilization, though. Still number one on my list of best games ever.
