Vista or XP?

Not many of my old games work on Vista, while they work fine on XP. I would hate to not be able to play my favorite games.

I can play Fallout and Fallout 2 on Vista no problem. And these are the CD versions not the GOG ones. I can also play PS:T on it without any issues. I'm happy with it.

I've got a ton of old (pre-98 games), and the only one that just straight out doesn't run on vista is episode 1 pod racer. Hell, I'm sure I could get that one working if I fiddled around with it; but I've already got the 64 version on my rig with 24x aa/af to boot.

I run two systems on my current PC. One is Windows XP and the second is Linux Debian Testing.

Windows XP is everything I need in 'Windows department'. I am not interested in Vista at all and I'm gonna stick with XP as long as possible.

I like this game! I think it's the only racing game (apart from FlatOut series) I really really like .

For those that plan on sticking with XP instead of upgrading to Vista, I'd say thats the smart way to go.

Given that Windows 7 supposedly will be released in 2009, what would be the point of upgrading to an all ready days numbered OS?

Me, I was in MS family/friends beta so I wound up with a free copy of Vista Ultimate 64 and have been running it since release.

Initially there were quite a few hardware and software compatibility issues. At this point in time, those issues seem to be all but gone. I've been seeing less of those issues come across my desk at work as well.

If your reservations against Vista are due to some of the many misconceptions or outright fabrications about the OS, (You NMA'ers know who you are) then thats your prerogative...

Hmmm, well it helps that my friend has a free copy of XP he's giving me.

Good post, Maphusio, and I agree.

Vista is not a terrible operating system. In fact, if someone is already using it, I say stick with it as long as it's trouble-free. It's decent enough. However, I prefer and vouch for XP since Vista's benefits (and they are there) don't quite make up for its bulk, nor are they necessarily worth the switch from XP.

Additionally, yes, RAM is exceptionally cheap, but why take on an extra 250MB or more in RAM usage for what basically amounts to little or nothing for the majority of users?

Personal preference rules the day in this case.

Most of my problem with Vista is the fact that Microsoft has released another bloated OS full of tangled applications that I mostly just ignore. I don't want all of that shit from my OS, I just want a platform for running apps. I use Windows XP for gaming (or until I decide to fuck around with Wine) and Linux for basically everything else.

I've been using Vista for over a year now, and while it can indeed be a system hog (not that it bothers me that much, I've got a decent rig), and it takes some getting used to, I find it to be way superiour to XP. The Media Center capabilities (I've got my rigged hooked up to cable) alone make it way worth it. Not to mention I can't get over how ugly XP looks now.
