Want to play STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl

Hello all,

I got myself a copy of STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl limited edition soon after it was released but I never got to play it for various reasons.
I would like to play it now but I have some questions for those who have it on their computer.

1. I understand there is Securom DRM on STALKER. Is there anyway to install and play the game without Securom?
2. Next to Oblivion Lost, which patches and fan made content should I install to make the game the best playable from the start?

I did as well, but with everything that's happened I'm just letting people know they might have to find it elsewhere whenever they happen to read my post.
 
For the DRM, there's NOCDs online, if you care to look for them. AFAIK, Securom is not really tha hard to crack these days. Be thankful it's not Starforce.
 
We kind of have a thread for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. mods Anyway about by passing Securom DRM on STALKER. The best way to do this, is to go GameCopy world and get NoDvd exe fr your game. http://m0001.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_stalker_shadow_of_chernobyl.shtml

As for mods I suggest Supermod Pack LITE for Oblivion Lost 2.2. Why that, because its being constantly updated. So is its arsenal part with weapons balances and new additions. Another thing Id like to point out is the improved arena, its fantastic and a game on its own. So far I have found it very stable and recommend it.

What I still don't know is if Securom is installed the moment you install the game, that sort of worries me.
 
Dose not matter its usually in exe file and fixed exe should circumvent that problem if DRM bothers you that much.

You can always remove things like securom and starforce with a rootkit remover, haven't had any issues with drm in the past so I haven't bothered myself. You may also be able to install on a different machine, and essentially make your own rip of the game and copy it over without having to install anything. "Just make sure you own a legal copy of the game etc etc." Can't help you much without mentioning that which cannot be mentioned here sorry :oops:
 
Sorry for resurrecting a dead topic but I have decided to get STALKER SOC through STEAM as I really would like to play this game.

I take it there are no difficulties installing mods?

As for mod choices I guess the following;

Oblivion mod
Arsenal mod

What else?

I am looking for mods that balance the game and add missing content
 
Well there are plenty of mods to go around, you just have to scan GSC forums for the one that suits your taste. But one that comes to mind is PRIBOI STORY. It does qualify the points you asked, but is total conversion. As for OL currently the original author has finished with it and has moved on. OL Lite pack I mentioned has many other mods beside OL that don't conflict with OL.
