war of the worlds

Welsh, as a person who has read Well's outstanding book since I was 6, there are a couple of things myself and WOTW fans find wrong with it.

1. According to Steve himself, the aliens are NOT Martians.

2. It is set in the modern America setting again, not Victorian England.

3. Turning poor old Ogilvy into an action star, just is so wrong in so many ways.

To me it is War of the Worlds in name only. Sure it looks promising as a sci fi movie, but throws out too many of the basic premises of the book to be associated with it. So what I do is call it Attack from the Stars, and then I have no problems with it.

"A contemporary retelling of H.G. Wells's seminal classic, the sci-fi adventure thriller reveals the extraordinary battle for the future of humankind from the eyes of one American family fighting to survive it"

Uh-huh.

sci-fi adventure thriller

Great. Add "RPG" in and it'll sell even better.

The flick's photos look like people standing in front of the WTC when it went down. OMG noes! We suffer great! God Bless America, let's trust the authorities.

Too bad it has such a cliche'd, patriotic EMO-ridden sucky plot, the webpage is awesome from a graphics' point of view.

I'll reserve my judgement for when I see it. So long as the aliens are unstoppable Terror Squads that die of the Cold, I'll be satisfied.

I'm not even considering watching this one. Crap like this is for people who are completely unable to grasp any form of art or creativity done before 1980.

Godsdamnit! Why do all remakes now have to be "contemporary" and "American"?

Is there some essential inability of all Hollywood filmmakers and/or the American cinema audiences to understand other cultures. Oh, wait.
I think that the answer to that question is self-evident.

Also, why do people cast Tom Cruise in anything?
I honestly cannot remember when he last gave anything better than a "phone in" performance.

Also (part II), what Montez said.

I think that most American filmakers are so conceded and they think "WE ARE THE SHIT. AMERICA ROCKA." ,but Im in Americas military and I see how the shit works. No one really knows whats going on behind the scenes ,but we see a lot of it....

Edit: God.

Build time machine.

Murder younger self.

Yeah, but has that gotten better or worse. I think it was probably worse in the past. Maybe not.

It's all about business, bro. If it sells, the moviemakers will play it up.

It all boils down to the lowest common denominator. The dumbest buy the mostest, that's the name of the game.

Originality? Creativity? Own ideas? Who needs it?

I'm not complaining! This past year has been great for me. I've watched so many kick ass movies and there are plenty more to come. Episode 3 being one of them.....

Edit: I was wrong.

Im not trying to prove anything if thats what you meant by cqfd.

Not so coincidentally, republicans want to completely eliminate income and estate tax and replace it with sales tax. I wonder how long we have until the USA is a complete oligarchy?

I thought Tom Cruise was great in The Last Samurai.

Then again, he was playing a drunk.
Maybe, I never saw that. I stopped really watching movies a few years ago, so I think I'll have to concede that point.

That's around the tenth time I've heard praise for that movie from wildly different sources. I guess it's time to go rent it.

I must admit I can't stand most of the drivel Tom 'the tooth' Cruise stars in, but The Last Samurai was a good movie. Not because of ole Tom, but his supporting cast. They did a damn good job portraying the samurai way of living, and codes of honor.
