The Vault Dweller
always looking for water.
A long time ago I played Warlords 1 and thought it was one of the best turn-based strategy games ever. Which is why I was so perplexed when Per told me about how much better Warlords 2 is since I didn't even know a sequel existed.
Since it's freeware I downloaded it, but only got around to playing it now. This may be the perfect example of adding to existing features and making new ones without removing old features or altering them for the worse.
Random maps (balanced just enough to provide fair play, but not enough to provide identical and boring outcomes) with random start locations and random heroes makes for excellent replayability. They expanded the units (which there were already plenty of) and added the ability for heroes to gain levels which not only makes sense, but provides greater benefit to keeping them alive which is very demanding.

I'm certain a lot of people here haven't played Warlords 2 considering its age and I'm also certain they'd love it even if the graphics are ancient and there's no sound. Just play some music in the background. Numerous themes fit the battle/fantasy setting too.
Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller
*EDIT*
I also forgot to ask has anyone played the RTS spin-off series Warlords Battlecry? I'm skeptical about such an awesome game being changed from TB to RT and still being great, but I've seen high reviews for it, but supposedly the games are obscure due to low-sales. I assume they counted on Warlords fans to buy it, but they didn't want something not TB and normal RTS fans wouldn't buy something "new" in that genre.
