Big fans of airsoft games may get a kick out of this one:
My name is Bob, I am an airsoft player and a hardcore Fallout fan. My airsoft team, the Fallout Rangers (http://www.falloutrangers.gr) is organizing a big airsoft event next month (26 Oct 2008), based on the Fallout universe.

The scenario is called "Wasteland2: Rise of the mutants". There will be four teams: the Enclave, the mutants, the Raiders and of course, the Vault Dwellers. The duration will be 6 hours and there are about 20 quests for the players to complete.

The story takes place just before Fallout 2 starts.

The game is not just a shoot first ask questions later type of game. There will be NPCs that give quests, items to be found, riddles and hidden objectives to be discovered and many more.

Characters from Fallout will appear like Set, Vic, Brotherhood of Steel paladins, the President, Marcus and many more.

The website is currently in greek language but an english language is in the works.

Here's a sample of the props we are going to use, a real life GECK, and a motivational poster:

Wasteland3 will be international! I hope to see you there!

What is it with people who enjoy movies these days that have bad endings?

random person at this event: "Die mutie!" *bang!*
super mutant larper: "Ow! You f**er! That hurt!" *doubles over in pain*
other super mutant larpers: "Get him!" [cue reenactment of super mutants beating the overseer to death.. except it's not the overseer this time.. and it's quite real]

can one find love in a fallout larp?

this looks pretty intresting.

The thing with larping though, you either go all the way or you end up with really retarded looking costumes.

I have actually never met a person who's larped before....strange isn't it?

Very cool, sir. I love airsoft and paintball. Your idea sounds like a lot of fun. All of my friends all happen to be Fallout fans (thanks to me), and I think I shall run this by them. I know I want to give it a try. Also, very nice GECK prop. It looks great.

Umm... airsoft isn't larp...

Airsoft is in essence shooting the hell out of your friends to blow off stress and have fun while having real consequences (you should see some of the welts that you get depending on where they hit you, a buddy of mine constantly gets hit in the neck, regardless of what he does.)

Anyways, there's various types of gameplay from just standard 'shoot the chit out of everyone who's not on your side' to capturing a particular item, or perhaps guarding a particular member of your team, etc.

Airsoft is mostly about one of two things, either tactics, or spray and pray, depending on how good a shot you are and how good your backup is on your team. (if you're a spray & pray, odds are you're taking point or you're abandoned by your team for shooting them in the back :P)

Anyways it's a fun way to spend an evening that's for sure.

No, but this airsoft scenario is.

Hi guys,

I'm a member of the Fallout Rangers, and it is an honor to post here. As Fallout fans, we have been lurking at NMA for years, but having nothing constructive to add to the conversation, didn't. We have also been mooching stuff from NMA for years. To Brother None then, a solemn bow of respect from all Fallout Rangers (grovel)

Many things in life are just Live Action Role Playing - in the end, it's a very crucial part of our society in a broader sense. This particular LARP, Wasteland, is our way of our expressing concern at the choices we are making as a society and species. It may very well turn out that "Fallout" is as prophetic as Orwell, sad to say.

In any case, we are indeed airsoft fanatics, and many of the group are Fallout fanatics as well. This game will have 80 participants from all over Greece, because we are not set up to handle more. (We debated going international in the beginning but were afraid to do so. )

Amateur actors will play the roles of Set (who we had survive the events of Necropolis), BOS paladins in full plate armor, Dick Richardson, Valerie (because the guy who was to play Vic had an accident), Marcus, Aunty Entity from Mad Max 3, Myron (the actor looks and sounds exactly like him), and others.

Numerous props will be in place, including the GECK, water chip, Jet, Rad Away, Nuka Cola, microfusion cells, and others. Also one robot, if I can get the (insert adjective of choice) thing to work.

Gameplay will be nonlinear, just like the PC game. Players will have the options to shoot, sneak, or negotiate to complete quests. We are picking up after the events of Wasteland 1. Next year, Wasteland 3 will be international.

To give you an idea of the field, it is a 400 room hotel in a state of decay, with three levels of basement. The trailer below shows most of the field, but not the basements where the nasty creatures will lie in wait.

To answer some questions that were posted and another that is being thought about by those whose job it is to think about such things:

1. This is not an economic transaction. No money is changing hands. This is purely fan fiction being set up through personal labor and at personal expense to provide enjoyment as a personal pastime for friends. Key words: "no money" and "personal".

2. The Fallout Rangers are currently an Athens, Greece based group only. However, we are amenable to setting up chapters in other locations. Interested parties should contact the administrator of the site, addressed to either Bobkid or Papa Angel. Our specialty is CQB in run down, destroyed, decaying buildings, as this seems to simulate the reality of modern urban warfare better than anything else, and it is very "Fallout".

Key dangers from same arise from the field itself as opposed to the players. We have never had an accident, because we are careful, but theoretically one could fall six stories down an open elevator shaft, or one story on to a pile of rusty steel spikes.

Other questions:

can one find love in a fallout larp?
Probably not, as it is only a six hour game. But Aunty Entity is pretty hot and wild, so no one is really sure what will happen around her once we get her dressed up in leather, shooting at men and taking slaves.

I hope they'll be doing movies
For sure. Bob is great at it, see video above.

More like welting him to pain with BBs until he yells "Out!" Airsoft is an honor system - the typical player yells "Out" when hit. That having been said, should this not occur, it is possible that said mutans will empty a clip on said player at 330 fps until he does say "Out". But I doubt it .

Are players allowed to use the V.A.T.S. targeting system? Or would this be grounds for dismissal?

I was in a Diablo guild about 10 years ago named "Keepers of the Fellowship". After the majority of them (myself not included) met up in real life, at least two marriages broke up as other members ahh.. formed a new relationship, with said breakupees. Single guys stealing the married women, so to speak. :P

Hello everyone!

As many of you remember, on 26th October 2008, the Wasteland 2 post-apocalyptic airsoft scenario game took place in Athens, Greece.

The game was a great success, with over 80 participants and now you can finally get a taste of it by watching the video trailer on YouTube or by visiting the Wasteland2 website at: http://www.falloutrangers.gr/wasteland

I am sure you'll all notice the NMA reference...

Cheers!

cool, but with 2 gripes:

didn't like the music after the classics & it's too bad not everyone dressed for their part.

I'll check out the video when I get home, I love playing Paintball (never done Airsoft) but I've only done it for sport, never with any sort of theme or scenario.
