Haris released a beta version of the upcoming Fallout 2 mod "Wasteland Merc". Here's a bit from the readme:
Features:13 custom locations, custom weapons, custom missions and dialogs and more. This is not an add-on, it is a campaign on its own.

...

What mod is about: In this mod you are not the chosen or vault dweller but a simple mercenary warrior that goes around in wasteland looking for missions/jobs. All missions/jobs are redoable and are intended to be done several times. If you come to a town and nobody seems to be willing to talk to you that means your not high enough level to get that mission. Than usually they will tell you to get bent or come back when your better in various ways.
Haven't checked it out myself, hoping it's decent. The mod is mysteriously called "beta", even though Haris says it's finished, but apparently that's because there might still be bugs in there.

sound better then his other 2 mods. I like the idea the you can do some misions over and over again. I kinda missed this in F2.

Well when duckandcover comes back online i'm going to give it a try.

Everything was going good, until I decided to leave town and do some random encounters. Who thought it would be fun to fight 15-20 of the same thing, every fight?

Wow, isn't that kind of a fast development timeframe for what the mod was supposed to achieve?

Well, haven't you hear, he's taken his time with it.

Probably to a timespace in another universe or something.

You can take time?

Damn. If I'd've known that I would have taken some of the time I wasted at work today and used it to ... well, drink beer and/or sleep.

Could somebody tell me if he's included the ill-advised modification to the menu graphics?

Must be that new-fangled Cubic Time that he's using to make this mod so fast, eh?

This mod is alright...I'll give it that. It took me maybe 20 minutes to get to level 2! There are lots of bugs, and the english is a little bit strange, but this is the biggest mod I've played, which makes it at least temporarily amusing.

the guns are all dark black for some reason too...including my mini-rocket launcher ! I knew fallout 2 was missing some weapons...

Does this campaign overwrite the original campaign, just get embedded into the old game or do you have a choice when you start as to which fallout you want to play?

After playing this more, I realized that the world map is the same as the one from Fallout 2. There is no 'campaign' so to speak of...its basically just wander around, kill, and collect random stuff for money + exp. All towns and characters are changed, as are most weapons and the use of bottlecaps of course.

This mod could definitely could use some work...I'm just glad to see people are starting to get out these more lengthy mods FINALLY! If we're lucky, maybe one really satisfying mod will come out before F3...

Yes. Fear the mark of Haris.

See?

Eh FJO has a point though... at least Haris got a mod OUT. While it doesn't have a story, it's a pretty lengthy size. Too bad he isn't willing to put what HE can do together with the other mods. Of course I haven't played it yet... I'm just saying, maybe he's on the right track and others should pay heed.

Try it out, it's really easy to install, and I'm still playing it today.

One thing that I do like a lot about this mod is that the weapons and ammo are MUCH less prevalent throughout the wastes. This was one of the small things I always disliked about the fallout universe...too much ammo.

I think he deserves at least some kudos for what he's done... I see a lot of mods these days ending up as nothing. But then comes the issue of quality versus quantity. Twonky english would be enough to discourage me.

But yeah, less amounts of ammo sounds good. You have to rely more on melee weapons to kill the smaller enemies instead of just blowing/shooting them apart with 200 bullets...

If your confused about the install, don't be, its extremely simple.

Move Fallout2.exe and the Data folder, somewhere else, as a backup.

and extract the files from the Mod into your Fallout 2 directory.

They could have packed it into a patch... also there is that Fallout mod loader program that is supposed to make everything super easy...

as for the mod: Amatureish to the extreme.

They got ONE script working, and cut'n'pasted it to make like 10 clone quests (get me X of item Y. and Ill give you item Z) types.

If you want a quality mod; get The TeamX NewVision mod.

Mind you this is only like #12. in terms for fallout mods...

its bad, but better than nothing.

I suppose if these guys worked with a bigger better team, and more experience they just might get something good someday.

Too many random fights (with plants and dogs) on world map- its not playable yet
Quest system be perhaps good if this made as "Trade system"
(so u will be wasteland merchant, not mercenary)
