Junkmaster
Ok folks, time to get this going, but I expect it will be a slow start up.

WIll have to contact the vets from the last chapter to see what's going on. Will pm this weekend if I don't hear from them by Saturday.

As for the story- My thoughts are that Gizmo and Killian were once partners in Junktown, each sharing a different ambition. Gizmo is worried that the merchants in the HUb are planning a hostile take over, but Killian seems enthusiastic about the increased business. With time this difference of opinion will turn to war- leading to war. Gizmo is right, the Hub does want a hostile take over. He will win to the point that the Hub loses interest, but will lose in that the vaultdweller will eventually slay him. By the end, Killian is barricade in his shop while running the Junktown police, and Gizmo is reduced to a handful of loyal thugs and desperate attempts at assassination- it becomes a fight to the death.

This chapter should basically tell that story. Also there is the loose thread of Ian and Inne that still needs to be resolved.

Likewise. Welsh, do you know what Dwemer and Ivan scavenged from the wreck, if anything? Im not sure as to what equipment Crazy Ivan has at the moment.

I am already posted up and am back in. If any of you want a small piece of equipment modified or some survival training just ask Welsh if its ok then write it in the debrief post.

Ok, while we hold to see who else will join, I think survival training is fine.

As for Vault 15- probably no one is going back to scavenge for fears of what remains. In the meantime, rats, mole rats, scorpion and such are moving in to feast on the dead. Thus when the vaultdweller shows up, it will be filled with scavengers.

Continuity is important, but was a theme of this story throughout- a bit of humor and action, but the idea of "this is the story behind the story of Fallout 1." So we will discuss the origins of the Junktown Fued, perhaps how Set took over Necropolis and the problem with the mutants, the problems in the Boneyard.

But ideally the story should also have it's own plot. My thoughts on this are that we should tell another story of the same time. In the end this will have to do with the spaceship in San Francisco that the Hubologists try to use, but I am not sure about that yet.

What's the word with Zoe? Is she back yet?

Also - I am moving on the Roadrunner- Brute relationship. That was developing in the last chapter so, I figured in the weeks since that, it has finally blossomed. If that's not working or causes you guys problems, let me know and I can edit that post.

I think we should also give a reminder of who our characters are and what's going on.

So to start-

Dwemer- Dwemer "Brute" is something of a large, body builder type who had gotten the nickname "Brute" for his brute force. A quiet, introspective person, Brute is not a social individual by nature but perferred the discipline of hard exercise. He was surprised to receive the quest for the waterchip and is one of the first of the vaultdwellers to go looking for the chip (the others being killed by the rat-monster in the caves outside of Vault 13).

He is loyal and dedicated to his cause, even though he has been told by Roadrunner that he will fail to find the chip. He would prefer to have done this alone and risk no one else's life. That other's have joined has made him feel somewhat responsible for their safety, and guilty that he has put them at risk- especially Roadrunner.

He does not fully understand the wasteland, or human nature, and in someways is rather naive about people and foolhardy. Dwemer is not a fool, and his intelligence has been underestimated by those who have thought him little more than a muscle head. He is not the most trusting person and rather suspicious, but is fiercely loyal to his friends and companions.

Where Dwemer is socially distant and something of a loner- a very strong, silent, reluctant leader type, Melvin is something else.

Melvin is something of a thief/diplomatic character who has spent his life in study of the Kama Sutra- thus a Kama Sutra master. Unlike Dwemer who was recruited by the Overseer for this quest, Melvin volunteered. Among the reasons where his disdain for the racial prejudices of Vault 13 and his distrust of the Overseer. But more accurately, Melvin sees himself as the Johnny Appleseed of love whose mission in life is to spread his seed throughout the wasteland to populate it with images of himself.

Where Dwemer is a large, strong, Arnold Schwartzenegger type, Melvin is long, pencil think, black with a huge afro. His success with women is therefore, surprising and few women can really explain what his attraction is. It is this single-minded interest that has often gotten Melvin in trouble.

Whereas Dwemer is rather quiet, Melvin is somewhat outspoken and will, on occassion, stick his foot into his mouth. Yet, his amicable disposition and courage under pressure will often garner him loyal friends.

Richard- A low profile wanderer from up north. He is tagging along until he feels his debt has been paid or until he has found what he is looking for.
He has received a strong education & is good with his hands. If you need some something fixed or hacked, be it a gun or a computer, he is the man to go to.
Usually hides his true identity by posing as an ex-raider or a scav. He has opened up to Dwemer about his true home, but he hasn't told everything...

For those interested, the critter that killed Bee came up in the very first chapter and made one or two appearances since. Hopefully we can deal with this issue in the course of this chapter.

I am holding onto her if things get a bit boring and I need somebody killed off.

FOr those interested, she is also a relative of similar creatures found in Gecko and The Den in FO 2.

Remember we are not limited to Fallout 1 in this story.

Is she now? Yeah, I figured it was that thing that Seth almost wet his pants over when he saw her....

Or, I think you mean Gecko and Klamath, if it is what i think you think it is, then it is Klamath and Gecko, not Den. I don't think Den, to mky reckoning had that sort of pest problem.

Yes, actually I think you're right. It was Klamath.

Remember Fallout played with the notion of a few escaped labrats and how they mutated. The Klamath one ran the nest, the one in Gecko dreamed of world conquest.

This is similar except her powers are a bit different and work as a hunting technique. She baits her prey with images of what ever that prey is sexually attracted too, and then when the prey's defenses are down, consumes them.

This was why when Dwemer and Brute first met her in the cave outside of Vault 13, each saw something vagually different.

Which might be the trick to catching her.

Tricky creature... Pretty insidious actually. Welsh, how come you never did any Fallout Fan fics? Hmm, I sense a vision.

Don't know. I always think of RP as kind of fan fiction done as a group. These are more fun because we share idea. For example, I like what you've done with Roadrunner as a character- though the first post that I introduced her could have been fan fic.

LW was kind of an epic I adopted. Wasteland wasn't really my idea at first, but I threw in my hand with the creator who prompty quit. His idea was only to do the mutant part of Fallout 1 while I suggested going back to the beginning. Brute was not my character, Melvin was- a chance to play a diplomatic/thief/kama sutra master.

Kilrick Salvage is based on a novella I started about the consequence of a race war- the Greens in that story really are green. The Life after the Apocalypse thread is also based on a novella about a couple raising a child in a zombie infested world- "a zombie survival guide for young families."

The rat-thing that is chasing us was actually considered for LW, but we never had the chance to get to it. Actually I would like to finish LW's story about the abominations, a nasty critter that Roguehex did a great job with.

I just can't see how one can really do pen and pencil style roleplay on these kinds of forums. To assume it's possible or that one should follow those standards just invites disaster.

Better to think of these roleplays as shared stories, cooperative fiction, in which one or two characters knows what's going on and guides the story giving the players more opportunity to develop the story as they want. Perhaps they hold back where the story is going or some of the details to add elements of surprise.

I discussed this with Gunslinger recently. The challenge is really plot. To keep the plot unwieldy invites confusion and complexity, too much work for causal writers to keep with. People who roleplay get frustrated because these things often last two or three weeks and then die out fast because the players lose interest or don't want to do the work.

But if you plot it out, and push the story forward, if there is some direction to the roleplay and it's guided, the roleplay can go on for extra chapters. The trick then becomes rotating in and out dedicated characters as people drop out or want to drop in.

That the Zeke-Vedpose story worked in the last chapter of this was kind of surprising. It's good that we brought the story lines together.

This chapter, I think, will focus mostly on our characters in Junktown and the problems Junktown has with the Hub, setting up the town feud that the Vaultdweller eventually finds.

What's the story with Zoe? Is she in? We also have the Inne story to resolve.

Other characters-

Is Rob still in? Daniel? With Prudence out I am guessing that Sam will also have to die?

Damn, tghis is a high body count!

well, you can lower the bodycount by having Sam ordered by her father to come back to the BoS for some mystery mission he can only entrust her with.

just to say, death is not the only way out ;)
you cant keep spawning tentacled beasts :p

Oh Suaside, You have no idea what terrible machinations I can imagine.

Nope, the "Daddy calls Sam back to BOS" is too easy. But possible.

We will have to consider this- perhaps somewhere in here is the reason why the BOS is isolated or the reason it becomes more engaged in the world, or who was that BOS dude in the HUb who was kidnapped.

Hmmm....

Or tentacle rape.

Hmmmm......

Ok, my thoughts with the nasty rat who plays on your sexual instincts-

This sucker could really do us quite a bit of damage by appealing to our sexual instincts. But it might want to target the others (not Melvin or Brute) first, to think down the ranks.

It would want to use it's trick, to tease and divide us.

So I am thinking this-
Let you guys play with it. In fact, the story is going to take us to Junktown. The only real issue that we need to deal with is that Killian and Gizmo are currently allies but have a difference of opinion about the Hub merchants (who are going to try to use Killian to take over Junktown unless Gizmo stops it- that's our story).

Between the Vipers and Junktown, and dealing with the rat- I will leave to you guys to plot and manage- cool?

Hey guys, new person here. i've been reading this rp since the beginning but never got involved. i think with the journey to junktown now starting and not as many people wanting in, i can have a shot. :D i'm waiting for welsh's approval though, hope you don't mind me posting my character here prematurely.
