Wasteland

First time out of the vault
If Wasteland is Fallout Jr., then who owns the rights to the Wasteland franchise? I wouldnt mind seeing a new Wasteland game.. all we'd have to do is edit the graphics so it reads as "Fallout 3" on the menu screen :D

More like Fallout is Wasteland jr. The rights to Wasteland are owned by Inexile, which is Brian Fargo's game company (Brian Fargo is the ex-CEO and founder of Interplay), and I think they're going to start developing it in the near future. If it ever gets made it'll most likely look like this new Bard's Tale game, which is also being made by Inexile.

OMG! This is funny! Try putting your mouse-pointer on the lass and listen to her comments! Do this a few times and... Whoooooooooshhhh! You get zapped to another, very meaningfull site! Great link, Montez. Although, I must say, I don't like the graphics of A Bard's Tale one bit.

Talking about wasteland, how many of you played it? is it really that good? I have it on my pc but it's kinda strage and don't know exactly how to play it, but if u think it's worth it, I might spend some time with it...

I played it many times, and to this day i play it again all the time.

It'S worth it allright

It's one of my favorite games ever. It might be hard to get into if you didn't play it back when it first came out since you might be spoiled by modern graphics. I say give it a shot though, it's a great game.

I gave it a shot sometime ago, but the PC-Speaker *BEEP* that sounds every time you move made me go away :P

The only PC-Speaker sounds I can stand are the themes from Leisure Suit Larry and Indiana Jones, anyway :P

I tried it more then one time but first of all I wanted to make a new party and start over and didn't knew how, then I got lost in the game, not knowing what to do and often got killed... I need a tutorial or a manual or something...

SP: best way to get killed early in the game besides stepping up to the citadel and trying to take it.

Karcow: you can find the manual at http://www.the-underdogs.org/

take the paragraph manual too, you'll need it. After you finish the game, take time to read all the paragraphs

Hm. I downloaded Wasteland some time ago, but the graphics just scared the shit out of me. Can't concentrate on pixels, really. A shame, though, since all I've heard about it were good things, but I guess I should have played it when it was first released. That's exactly what a good friend of mine said when I borrowed him my copy of Fallout: "Might be good, but the graphics are shit. Should've played it back in 1997, probably.' Ah well, he doesn't know what he's missing. (And I probably don't know what I'm missing for not playing Wasteland  )

Anyway, I still can't believe that most people on this forum don't know that the best guides for the best games out there can easily be found on this address:

http://user.tninet.se/~wcw454p/guides.html

@ Karkow: There's a Wasteland guide (and some other stuff :wiggle: ) right there for you, written by the *almost* legendary Per Jorner.

Someone should put this url on the download pages or something. After all, they're the best guides around, imo.

NO doupt about it, the graphics are bad, afterall it was designed for the apple II and the C-64.
When i bought it for my c-64, it came on four 5.25 floppys.
My first completed game took me about a month. Now show me a modern game that you can't finish in a couple of days, they are pretty scarce.

did you try to hover the ladys breast (how gentle) more than 3 times?
hehe

That is the funniest website link. Try annoying the guard on the left behind the guy with the wanted poster about 4 or 5 times.

Oh, and hover the mouse over random parts of the picture *kaff* ale.

Sadly, without FO3 to look forward to, this is the closest thing I have to entertainment.

Unfortunately, a game that takes a long time to finish doesn't get you back in the store buying more and more.

I need to set up my old 486 and give Wasteland another good workout. Took me nigh-forever to finally beat it (I went into Base Cochise woefully under-powered).

I play Wasteland on my PII-300 no problems.

The pc-speaker thing is also a problem, especialy when you are trying to play at work, full auto fire is annoying, i think there is a way to turn it off tho.

Simple solution:

Open up the case, reach in towards the front (the speaker is usually very obvious at the front), and then just yank out the speaker jumper from the motherboard (all moderns have it where you plug in the wires into a jumper field along with drive lights and such). It really doesn't matter if you have the box on or off, but as long as the speaker isn't working at the time you're pulling the jumper.

It should take less than a minute to fix, although if you can't open the case, then that's a bitch. You probably couldn't turn the speaker off in the BIOS either if that's so.

I decided to finally give Wasteland a go, but for some reason my computer keeps locking up all the time. Only way to get out of it is pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL two times in a row...

Any ideas? :puppy-dog:
