weapon balance (is the minigun useless???)

Quentin

First time out of the vault
I just noticed that no matter the armor level of my ennemy (altough i'm before bunker epsilon), a single shotgun, found in the first level does more damage than a minigun at point blank(avenger or vindicator). So is this another balance problem or am i missing something?

Miniguns are so damn useless unless you manage to score a critical. The Browning is the top of the line for mid-game Big Guns. If you ask me, this is heavily unbalanced. Not to mention that you can't even kneel/prone w/minigun.

I used shotgun-based weapon throughout the game for my assault caracter.

What is your Big guns skill like compared to your small guns skill? If you have a low BG skill, then big guns will be useless.

Shame the ammo weighs so damned much!

So did I, Pancor Jackhammer in one hand, Sniper Rifle in t'other.

I think almost everyone ends up with those guns sooner or later.
And squadies with not enough ST to wield a shotgun, get an AK47 and a Sniper Rifle.
And towards the endgame you go for the Gauss rifle or energy weapons.
Pfff... Talk about linear gameplay...
Wasn't much different in FO and FO2, now that I come to think of it.

Ah well, this explains why my favourite game is Arcanum. All possibilities... 8)

Actually, I find Minigun damage to be quite high with the correct perks.

Max with bonus ranged damage was chewing up Reavers and Mutants with his Browning and Vindicator, I also used mutate to give him fast shot.

Where a shotgun deals around 30 damage, the miniguns were pushing 300.

I tried using the vind in that mission where you have to kill all the raiders that stole the power armor, and i found it better at long range. But i prefer the m60 or the m249 because you can go prone with it and the ammo is fairly common and unlike the browning it doesnt wiegh a ton.

Yes, the miniguns are still useless. (Except "The Minigun")

And the Browning M2 is still way too overpowered.

Well of course its going to be over-powered its a friggin .50 cal! But it does get a bit annoying in multi when im tryin to be a sneaky whore with my m60 and i get raped by a whole team usin those damn things...

.50 cal? So f*cking what? I mean that the weapon doesn't reflect what it really is/was IRL. One of it's drawbacks IRL was it's low rate of fire. And it was very heavy also.

Well one way to *balance* it would be to increase the char points that it adds in multi, forcing people to be a lower level or skimp on other items...

Or decrease it's rate of fire and how many shots it fires in burst mode. Or jump of a cliff or a bridge. Guess that would help too but might be a wee bit too radical. Who knows... No one has came back and tell if it helped or not.
