Weird post, but

Abs

First time out of the vault
So I started by modding the Awaken mod as an English speaker, mostly just to make it make some semblance of sense, and now I've once again fallen down the rabbit hole of fallout modding and went a little overboard...

I'm about halfway through finishing my mod as it were (it is sort of a mish mashed Fallout Tactics version of several post apocalyptic films, shows and books along with my own creative additions, smashed in with Awaken and the orginal fallout tactics mission set), but one of my issues was that I didn't really separate it from Awaken when first making it. I'm sort of building my own file extensions now, but don't really want to have to redo all the units, objects and triggers I've already done in the maps I've made in order to make it entirely separate from the Awaken mod.

So either it will be stuck as a personal mod for fear of reproducing someone else's work in this way, or I need to get permissions to re-release the Awaken mod plus my own additions.

I know it's not a huge loss to the world if I can't "release it" to the public, but I'd like to share my work at the end of the day.

So I guess my question is, what's wrong with me? And also, thoughts, input? <3

I did the same thing with Doom mods. Ask for permission or just fucking upload the mod anyway because nobody should expect some big reward for making mods. That is a good way to learn modding btw.

Alright, thanks, I'll just keep working on it as is for now at least, just for the sake of getting it finished quicker, I don't intend to make money from it and I will credit the appropriate modder's work that is included, so if that's not enough I might be able to redo things down the line...

Speaking of redo, I also included fallout redux (combined awaken with redux), and am seeing now a premade map list that I might scavenge for easier mapmaking. Again I will send credit where due, but will upload it as is when complete just for feedback at least.

Yep, if you credit the original author's work, I think it will be well received. I never encountered any negative input from contents I took from many parts of the Internet over the years. I think the spirit is a community and collective one, so if you found Awaken to be a good starting point, I think it's a win for everybody. Just share alike if someone would have the same idea with your contents :D

Cheers, I will try to credit where applicable, so far it is only Awaken and some reconfigured maps from the map pack (open tiles only copies that have been edited and repurposed).

I have recently slowed down a little on the mod work due to life stuff, but I'm still plodding away at it. I'm currently getting towards the end of "The Postman" (book and film mashup) section of the mod, and am about... 25-30 maps into the mod overall so far, approximately 10 of which are towns. On top of the large amounts of edits I have made to the Awaken mod also.

I think I want to do about 15-20 more maps at minimum before an initial release, the timeframe of completion I have no idea, probably no longer than 6 months though. It mostly depends on how busy I am in the coming months.

I do definitely still intend to release it, it's just a matter of how much more I can stand to flesh out. I actually started hitting writer's block walls too, which surprised me, but then there is a lot of text that goes into making questlines, and it's not always as simple as quoting movie or show lines.

And yes I know the Postman is corny as heck, but I also have a Jeremiah (TV show) section of the mod so don't worry, it gets cornier. I'm approaching it all in a largely tongue in cheek way, while still trying to be true to the themes (though obviously not the exact lore and history) of these works of media. All of which I think fits nicely into the world of the Fallout series.
