What are differences between Fallout I and Fallout II

Litmanen

First time out of the vault
Hi all.
I've just finished Fallout I.
I have already installed Fallout II.
Before i will begin to play they'll pass a couple of day (deciding what mods must be installed). So, in these days, can you tell me what are graphical/gameplay/other differences between Fallout I and Fallout II??

p.s. some remarks about which mods must be installed are welcome

p.p.s. sorry for my bad english

Not a lot, they use the same engine and a lot of the same graphics. Fallout 2 is bigger and less focused, and has a few interface tweaks.

For the first playthrough just use the latest fanmade patch from our files section, you shouldn't use mods for the first time.

Other than the game being much bigger in every way, there are some nice engine changes.

• There's a 'take all' button when looting bodies/containers.
• New items are added at the top of your inventory, not the bottom.
• You can move more than 999 of an object at a time (mostly useful for cash).
• In dialogue, it shows how much money you have, but the 'tell me about' option is gone.
• NPCs can wear armor, and you have much more control over their behavior.
• You can push critters (no more getting boxed into a corner by Ian).

As Brother None said, start with killap's unofficial patch, and play through at least once or twice before using mods that add new content.

p.s. Your english is just fine.

Fallout's interface is clunkier than its sequels.

Hell, forget about FO 3 and just get someone to remaster the originals.

Oh, thank you. You're very helpful.
I'm reading lots of threads in the forum and i've decided to install these mods:
Official patches
Killian's Patch
Resolution Patch
Italian Translation :P:P:P
"Pushing critters" will be very helpful. Fallout I had too narrow spaces :P
And i also think NPC wearing armor will be more important for the final part of the game

Thank you so much

I would reccomend Killap's RP, even if it's your first time. Think of it as the directors cut of a movie - it's basicly the same movie, but with some extra stuff that got cut. Plus 99% of bugs are squished (you don't get them in a movie!)

i will install the resolution patch and killian's patch 2
i hope this patch will let me play a semi-bugfree game

Note that killap's unofficial patch includes all the fixes from the official patch, and the RP includes everything from the unofficial patch, so you only have to install one of them.

FO2 has AI, graphical and user interface improvements, and it's a bigger game, but the story isn't as good and overall you probably won't find the replay value that you had in Fallout. There's too many "annoying" bits in FO2 that you find yourself having to grind your way through which makes it less fun than it should have been. The fan-made patches seem to take out a lot of these bits though so I'd play through vanilla, install the patches then have another go, you'll notice the difference.

Actually I think quite the contrary about the replay value of F2, mostly because of all the easter eggs and the length of the game.

This game's a bit too funny and different from the original Fallout universe, but I certainly wouldn't say that it lacks of any fun...
