"sic" is latin for "thus". It is a notation to designate that something was spelled incorrectly in an original quote and that proofreaders shouldn't try to correct it. It predates the internet and has been in use for quite a long time. Very handy when you want to show that the author whom you are quoting is a fucktard. Fucktard is obviously a combination of "fucker" and "retard" when either term is not enough to describe a person!

RE: Urban Dictionary

Thanks for the link, Xotor.

I guess it was in the dictionary after all...(embarassed grin)

Hey, look, don't worry about it. I'm just like this. It's nice to see new people to the forum. Pity I ruined your conversation though. :) Heh. Sorry about that.

I'm glad you saw that in the end. :) It's what screamed out at me as soon as I opened this thread. Hence the response. Anyway, no worries. As Xotor's sig says, ignorance is excusable.

Moo..... Moo.... I'm an Interplay Cow. (Ready to be milked with a Fallout style MMORPG with aliens!)

All's well that ends better!

Wow! When I first joined this board, I started this thread as an afterthought, expected only a single response.

Thank you Xotor, Locke Taelos, Dark Underlord, Briosafreak, JimmyJay86, APTYP, Ugly John, and anyone I missed (or misspelled) for responding.

MISSPELLING MISADVENTURES AND MISUNDERSTANDINGS

I'm hardly ever serious. Even in a regualar conversation, almost everything I say is meant to be joke.

I forget how easily this can be misinterpreted over the internet.

Therefore, I'll start using smiley faces to show that I'm kidding around. :D

And that way, I shouldn't have to post so many times to explain myself. (sheepish grin :7)

Oh, well... no need to labor the point.

And like my Gaffer always says, "All's well that ends better!"

RE: Hmmm...

(sic) is not just for spelling. It is used for spelling or grammatical errors when you're quoting someone so that you don't look like an idiot. Its used like: "Jim-Bob were (sic) going to that place."
