What game should I buy next? (PC only)

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
I’m looking for something that I can really get into and not finish in a weekend but not something I have to pay monthly for, I do have a social life. I’m into games like Fallout 1,2 (not tactics), the whole Hitman series, Arcanum and Vampire: The Masquerade.
I was thinking about getting The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, is it like an updated version of Arcanum?

Are you serious or just trolling? I really can't tell.

FYI: Oblivion has nothing whatsoever to do with Arcanum. At all. It's also nothing like the other games you mentioned.

You NMA people really dont like Oblivion huh? I dont know i have never played it but i know you can play as different races with different style of approach that effects game play: Mage, Fighter, Thief characters..w/e just like in Arcanum. If you think about it each game that I mentioned is very different with a few common elements. I was hoping someone would avoid the “noob bashing" and give me some recommendations.

Maybe you shouldn't act like a troll then.
You can try to play in different 'styles' sure, but there is *no* influence on the game at all. There are no meaningful choices, or consequences. At all.

Taking asides the visual effects, it's crap.

And no, that character class doesn't affect game play. You can play as a mage/thief/warrior, but at higher levels, you can very easily become grandmaster of all the guilds in the game, not to mention the dialogue options are completely irrelevant, so forget about "talking yourself out" of situations.

Also, you could think twice before blatantly stealing somebody's avatar to use it as your own. Do you work with the Afterfall team?

Please reread the question...

instead of going around calling people "trolls" read what they are asking for. All you have to say is no, dont waste your time on Oblivion if you wish to relive your Arcanum/Fallout experience. Then you would say something like I enjoyed Hitman and Vampire why don’t you try out (insert game title here).

I read it. That statement in your first post was as close to appearing to be a troll as it can get.

How about: I haven't a clue. If I did, I'd be playing that game right now.

Although you could try out one of the Spiderweb games like Avernum 4.

The Gothic series might be more up your alley as well.

Ok, No. Don't waste your time on Oblivion. If it weren't for the graphics, people would have looked at the game honestly and seen how it has less customization, and less in almost every aspect of the game than games that came out in the 90's. The combat shouldn't even be called combat, but rather mouse-click spamming.

The biggest error of the game that essentially made the game NOT fun was the auto-leveling of the enemies. As you leveled up, so did all the enemies in the world. The difficulty of fighting was nearly almost always the same, you never get an upper hand by playing more. That just goes against basic game psychology.

Although those things suck, its not ALL bad. I still enjoyed it somewhat... and for the price you can get it at nowadays (im assuming its like 30 bucks), its an OK deal. There's a lot of good Mods out there for the game, which in the end were the saving grace for me. But in hindsight, I shouldn't have payed $60 for it. Not at all. It's morrowind with better graphics and more side-quests. The "improvements" other than graphics were laughable.

Try Planescape: Torment if you're up for some heavy reading.

The Avernums are nice, but they're not even remotely the same type of game as Arcanum/Fallout. Nor are the Gothics.

Maybe ToEE? Never played it. Otherwise try other BIS games. They're not all good, but they're mostly harmless.

Depends on what you want,if you want something that resembles RPG,you've already -twice- gotten the Gothic games adviced and if they seem like up your alley, you might want to look for Arx fatalis too.
If you don't mind FPS games,I'd recommend Chaser,it's not easy -even on easy level- though, but it's big,has a nice story and so on.
Maybe Fahrenheit...I never did play much of it,but it looked fairly interesting, the same goes for Omikron: the nomad soul.

the reason behind that was the fact that i was nowhere near my computer when i created an accout and therefor had no access to photoshop, my avatar has been changed enjoy. Last time i checked the pip boys wasnt a registered trade mark of the Afterfall team.

Sorry i am not to big on the current gaming world what is this ToEE you speak of?

This is a general forum i'm not just looking for a fallout clone anything that you guys enjoyed playing is fine with me as long as you tell me the key elements that makes the mentioned game worth while. You can only play Fallout so many times it gets stale after the 70th time then the modds come in...

Temple Of Elemental Evil

If you're interested in combat/strategy games with RPG elements, Jagged Alliance 2 and Silent Storm are both good.

The Gothic games are a must for any RPG fan. Arx Fatalis is really good too, as Rainstorm said, but be aware that it's very light on interaction and dialogue and heavy on dungeon-crawling.

And I'd go with Morrowind before Oblivion, if you're seriously thinking about getting Oblivion. Morrowind has everything Oblivion does plus some, has better atmosphere, and will actually run at a decent framerate even with an older computer. It's probably only $20 for the game and the two expansions now. The graphics are less shiny than Oblivion but there are even mods to change that now, so it's a much better deal.

I guess ill try out Gothic can I start from 3 or would i have to work my way up. I played Fallout 2 before the orginal and still had a blast.

No,they're sort of "free-standing",so you don't have to start from #1,since you're likely to find "Who are you?" dialogue options whenever you meet someone you met in the previous game(s).
A warning about G3 though,2Gig RAM is very recommended.

But if you plan on continuing with Gothic I would recommend that you play 1 before 2.(you'll need to get used to another interface compared to 3 though))

Like Montez said,if you're thinking about Oblivion (i.e. The Elder scrolls),try Morrowind instead of Oblivion.

If you liked the Hitman series, you might like the Thief series too, thought they are old as door knob as an invention, they have their own depths regardless. And of course there is always the Half Life thing. Never played but it should be good. Max Payne. plah plah ...

But if you like the ToEE style role playing games, Neverwinter Nights(II), Knights of the Old Republic. These are long, but do not contain much replay value. And if you like those there is always the Baldur's Gate series.

TOEE only features good combat D&D style. that's about it.

and Gothic 3 is a mixed bag...

I'm looking for somthing fairly knew i recently got a new computer so i want somthing with grafics aswell. last game i bougth was FEAR but i couldnt get into it.
