What if someone could make a Fallout game....

Yeah, Unity is pretty decent with games like Wasteland 2 and Oddworld.
I'm somewhat familiar with Unity myself.

I'm unsure about Unity to be honest, I have tinkered with it a bit in the past and found it just chalk full of crap I don't need. Unity is a catch all engine for developers who don't know what they really want to make.

Don't get me wrong its a great engine to get started on and tinker with. But for me it lacks the finesse I require mostly because it lacks the specific functions I require in a simple manner.

World building in Unity can also be a chore simply because it has issues being customized to perform in a specific way. Yes all the "gizmos" are nice but it typically amounts to a bunch of excess crap floating around in the game code you never use.

And don't get me started with optimization. Unity is a engine that makes optimization torture. If you use Unity prepare to scrub it bare otherwise its going to have all that "free" crap floating around in your game files.

The best would be to create a new engine specifically for the kind of gameplay they want to have. They did it for Fallout 1, don't see why they can't just do it again.

Agreed, that way the engine would respond the best to the desired game mechanics without having to figure out how someone else programmed the system. Plus it would make optimization so much easier as the developer would already went into the engine to make it work.

I don't think much devs out there are capable into making a tr003 brand new Fallout game. It's should be a NMA project with fresh view but still true to the previous games.

Although i do love to see they do that, create a totally new Engine cost lots of money and time, i don't think they actually can afford it...

What engine, to be precise? UE4? Isn't it free for non-commercial usage? Unity? Isn't it too? Source 2? Limited to mod one game, for now fuck it from behind.

Don't believe what you hear about Unity being free because it is not, plus it has a bunch of "freemium" stuff to purchase. I don't have much experience with UE4 but I hear good things. Source 2, on the same track as HL3. Don't expect that to be out any time soon.

Didn't Bethesda say that there's this "brand new" engine they're working on, that "totally isn't the Gamebryo engine this time guys"?

It seems to do a fairly good job, even with all the bugs.
It does do a good job...at tanking the framerate constantly because the engine was cobbled together by monkeys. Shouldn't even run like garbage with how outdated it looks compared to other games, not that I'm a graphics whore but goddamn when I lose framerate constantly it better be for a good reason. Just saying.

I am afraid the engine the use to make their FO4 is the brand new engine they are talking about.

Demand that lore is accurate and future lore is realistic for the Fallout world. Also I'd like my decisions in game to matter like FO1/2. Engine wise I would go UE4 or Cryengine I feel first-person can be very immersive if combat is done right and graphics are accurate enough.
