What is the longest you have left a PC on for?

Muff

Water Chip? Been There, Done That
Today I broke my own personal best of leaving a PC ON and connected to the internet without restarting. over 1050 hour's what's your personal best? and while doing this what where you using your PC for I was downloading 2 Linux OS's.

Damn, Mad got me beat. Around four months, on my old computer. Surprised me that it stayed going for that long.

but was it just on, or actually being used? i don't count work as a relevant excuse.

me...

About 18 hours.

It collected dust better than one of those Ionic Breeze Quadra's for sure though.

With my new machine, I only keep it on if I'm actively using it. Otherwise, it stays off.

I think around 30 days. I always shut off my comp at least once a month to clean it out of dust and shit, and to give the psu a rest.

We had a PC at work (not a server) that stayed on for well over 3 months, and it was used day and night, seeing we have a night shift at work.

My PC? The longest it has stayed on for is about 12 hours. It gets used everyday, but there is no need to leave it on overnight.

depends on what is defined as 'your pc'.

my gamepc about a week. (win xp)

my backup pc about 2 months when i was still taking part in F@H. (win xp)

but my personal best is a testrig that i needed to torture test a few things (workrelated) who was up 5 months before reboot. (win server 2k)

I use it just about every day. This is my home computer. It's actually better to leave a computer on if you use it often. Turning it on and off multiple times a day is a bad thing. Right now my comp has been running since January. The ones at work are measured in years. The last time they were off was for the XP upgrade.

usually turn it off about once every other month or so. I use it for my home business (so pretty much all day, all night, everyday) and it has held up pretty well for the past 5 years.

20 hours.... Played through Dugeon Seige in one sitting... Started playing at 3pm one day and before I knew it... It was 11am the next day

Ditto. Of course, said computer is taking a good dirtnap for a while, because I don't think eMachines eTowers are meant to stay on for that long...

linux yes, xp not really.

if they're actually being used for something, it'll be bad for performance on xp if they stay on for days on end. xp will eventually slow down. hell, even windblows server is bound to have to be rebooted once in a while.

if you want solid uptime, go linux.

Jebus, you downloaded a 7.6 GB file on 56K? :freak:

I applaud you!

i would sincerely like to take credit for that, but... it was BitTorrent collection number 2 of MCoG which slowed the whole process up, only one peer and it actually managed to get up to 2kbps (que music from taipan "huge" price of opium)WOW!, sigh, i think they get the award for having the 56k connection, at least i got to download all the porn to my Pants content whilst waiting :D

The work machines are tabbed into a network and only run old dos programs like alpha. As far as I can tell the only reason they got XP is for the ram upgrade and better networking. Very little memory is used, except for one central computer which does slow down after a week forcing a reboot. 4 gigs of ram goes a long way, though.
A computer in a back room used for only one purpose was on 3 years before I rebooted it last week. Granted it's still running 98.

The laptop is yet to be turned off since i got it about a year ago. It kinda just chills there in my kitchen as the house uses it for various activities day and night.
