Another story today, we take a glance at Outcome, the born and set in Russia post-nuclear tactical cRPG in production.

The developers are promising an immersive tactical role-playing game, inspired by Fallout, Bad Blood, and - no surprise - the works of the Russian writers, the Brothers Strugatsky.

Featuring non-linear gameplay, the game will leave the choice to follow the main path or just wander the world studying it, joining bands or battling the enemies, to the player. There will be a complete freedom of actions: the player can do all the accessible quests or not one, by means of rough force or craftiness or persuasion. One will be able to collect up to five NPCs in his or her band by persuasion or money, each unique in nature and behaviour.

Features: About 120 weapons with different forms of ammunition, automatic pistols, rifles, signal pistols and the result of secret research, the weapon of the future. One will also have access to transportation in the spirit of the post apocalyptic future. The visual experience will come from completely 3D locations and characters, reliable skeletal animation, special effects: numerous mirror reflections, realistic fire. All will be viewed from an easy-to-use perspective camera. The game will have an unique combat system, thus far not used in RPG games, that will give you an improbable sensation of realism in the proceedings.

The screens don't really show the same feel to them as the concept art, but we'll see yet. Last but not least, I reckoned from the concept art that the game will have a Fallout-like system of Perks. I give to you the Outcome VaultBoy, and you try to guess which Perk does what.

Great concept art, but in-game graphics look awful. Tip for all developers: if you are going to do 3D, at least do it right.

Agreed, Ratty.

Plus, I'm a bit worried about that combat system of theirs. I hope it'll turn out hip and not just hype, I'm really starting to look forward to this title.

Omg! The concepts are so very well made and the 3d so very ugly. They sure must update their 3d engine or kick some modeller in the nuts.. those screens just won't do.

bah... humbug!

Just to clarify: Don't get me wrong here, the concepts are very great! Just the right style and very retro. Just how I like it.

I don't remember hearing about this game before. It sounds interesting, although I'd like to hear some specific information about the combat system.

Like others have said, the concept art looks great, but the screenshots remind me of NWN on the lowest video setting...

Looks like hl1 gfx but other then that it, sounds interesting. As long as it has good gameplay, i could care less about the gfx

The concept art gives me a hard-on, but they really need better textures and lighting.

The 3d models aren't the big problem. It's just what they make of them.

Muddy grey on muddy grey just tends to look shit. Even post-nuclear environment need to look good in order to create some kind of atmosphere.

Also, I think the screenshots all lack proper light and shading, which explains why they look like Unreal on minimum detail.

Hmm the textures are ij really low resolution, there is no lightning system, and colors are to blended.
Is this game some indie?

Textures textures. They really need someone to make the textures. Maybe their concept artist would like to learn some new things in texturing (I know I do).

If you know how to draw and use photoshop. Then you know how to make good textures. Using them in the modell is another matter. Just unwrap the picture and give it to the artist.

I would like to do textures, but I hate the unwrapping hell.

Frissy: Zbrush2 is a great tool for both modelling and texturing. You can paint directly onto the model and with some clicks export the completed texture... or refine it with photoshop if you like. This is, ofcourse, not a very cheap solution but I think there's similar programs that's cheaper.

Thanks for the tip. Seems like that program is just what the doctor described. I'm currently using 3D Studio Max as my modelling program, but it seems that I have to find a another one due to my platform change to a mac. Shame there isn't softimage for mac

When I first saw the Van Buren screen shots, I thought they looked terrible. Of course the screenshots were taken from a tech demo that was designed to meet a milestone. So perhaps these textures are just place holders?

Hi people! Sorry, i bad, very bad know English...

I'm GM Lead Programmer and Chief Cyberworks Tram (Outcome).

Screenshots what you see - see bad, because i compress this very bad quality, and screenshots are old (camera in game not a 3rd persion, she into izometric view)
