What Will Fallout 76's Failures Mean for Fallout 5?

I would reply with, "What reason would they have to make a new single-player title if the multiplayer game is bringing in more money with less effort?"

Hell, we haven't seen anything for TES VI outside of that one flyover trailer with the title.
While there are people still playing the game it's quite clear that it wasn't a commerciale hit especially compared to its predecessors. Actually it' been a huge PR flop, which has made even the most fervent zealots wary of Bethesda's behaviour. Future mistakes of this size could damage the company's reputation in the long term.
That's my opinion at least.

Fallout 4 is probably a more accurate game to look at when judging where the Fallout series will go imo.

Fallout 76 was marketed as a spinoff and was intended as a spinoff, and sold worse than every single Fallout game post 2 per data provided as of March 2020.

My belief is that Fallout 5 will remain a Single Player FPS "RPG" and they will continue to dumb down the game ad nauseum until you reach a point where it cannot be done anymore.

Fallout 4's dumbed down RPG mechanics and weaker writing with an emphasis on a blisteringly fast task reward mechanics proved to be successful commercially, and is the best selling Fallout game in the entire series.

However, I do think Bethesda will continue to update and mess around with Fallout 76 for a while longer with regular content updates to at least try to somewhat salvage the game, but it likely won't have much effect on the mainline Fallout title (except Bethesda might try to shoehorn in MTXs in some way for more cash so woooooo).

I said it before but I'll say it again, Fallout 76 has little if almost nothing to do with Fallout 5 and was developed primarily in their Texas studios. Fallout 5 is also likely a decade (if not more) away given they're still working on Starfield and TES 6.

My bet is by the time FO5 comes out the industry'll be so fucked 76 will be well above standard.

I'm not sure what it'll mean as much as if Bethesda is going to develop a online game or multiple online games in the future that they have a team dedicated to that and skilled enough to do that like ZOS with ESO.
