What'll happen if/when...

Thanks, helps me understand where you're coming from better. Out of curiosity, what "oddities" are you talking about?

Well, the original Deus X was based on a skill system and also incorporated a locational damage system.

If you had good firearms skill, then you can run and gun with ease. If you shot a guy in the head or neck, they usually went down pretty fast. If you had horrible firearm skill, then your targeting recticle while using any guns would be huge and you would not be very accurate. The only way to shoot steadily, was to stop moving and kneel or go prone. They also had many other skills such as stealth, hacking, etc. Lastly, the last game had a lot of good biomods, actually making you choose towards your preference.

Now you can cattle prod a guy in the neck over 10 times and he still won't die. In the commercial if you look closely, you'll see a shot where the player puts about five+ rounds into a guys neck and he is still alive and returning fire. They say they added extra biomods but only a few of them are useful All the skills have been scrapped because they want to 'balance' and probably make the game easier for the masses to play.

Its all the same these days. Philosophy, thinking and discovery is out and mindless shooting is in.

hah, every one here has the altruisim against the materialism complex:people! read "the fountain head" by anne ryne, its a never ending complex, because in order for it to work you have to have balance in both-otherwise only hardcore will like it, or the other side-most people will like it. so cut it: the fact is that probably interplay going down just because she made more hardcore fan games rather than the others-maybe BIS are really something that can't exist for long, just because of those facts?

They say no peice of great art was ever appreciated in its time

I hope that in 20-30 years, people will look at the fallout series, and ask why no 3rd, 4th, 7th ect

They'll definately still be trying to figure out why Van Gough cut off his ear

Unfortunately genious also isn't appreciated until it's dead.

Hopefully that's not the case here.

It's definitly not. Fallout and Fallout 2 have gotten recognition as being two of the best and most innovative role playing games ever. Check this kind of stuff out if you don't believe me:
http://www.gamespy.com/halloffame/december00/fallout/

If you do a google search or something, you'll see that all these game reviewers, fan sites, and whathaveyou all say that Fallout is an AMAZING game, one of the best games they've ever played.

And the simple fact that we're here on this board talking about how great Fallout is, is a testament to the game's genious.

Check the top of the reviews. Out of 31 reviews, the average score was a 4.55 out of 5.
And the reviewers in those links don't seem to know what they are talking about.
This game is slow, involved and boring. The whole point is to get a chip or some such thing so that you can save the water supply so that man cannot die in vaults or something.

So the game is boring because its "involved?" This person apparently didn't even play past the opening caves. Hardly a basis for a legitamate review.

As to the other review:
Finish this [water chip] quest and that's all there is to it.

uhhhhhhhhh.................NOPE

Fact is, the MAJORITY of reviews are extremely positive for Fallout and its sequal.

Oh and here's a dollar, buy yourself a sense of humor.

Too many little things to mention, mainly focused on the poor engine.

Critical Success =/= Popular success. One of these matters, the other does not.

I have read "The Fountain Head", but I fail to see the connection here, or maybe thats due to the way you expressed your views.

Anyways, I believe that although my post sounds a bit unfair it is nevertheless true. Why should a game company put 100% effort into a game to appease the few harcore players when they can put 50% into a game and sell it to the casual gamer who doesn't care too much as long as they can blow shit up.

DarkCorp, because that's what they were founded on. That's what brought Fallout to us in the first place. I can understand why they would do what they have done, but that doesn't justify it.

I remember when By Gamers For Gamers meant something. Now they just seem to only care about sales, which is unfortunate. I see the dual jewel pack selling like crazy, and wish the money from the sale would go to the developers and not IPLY, they don't deserve to still retain the rights to Fallout.

I'll stop here, everybody has heard these type of rants before.

lol, that's what i said:and that's what the book is all about-you can't win in those situation-only bullshit/shallow products sells-but you have to have in them something original otherwise it won't sell..the fact was that the main charachter there never gave up his individualty gave him a praise of glory by only a handful of people-while in a certain point of view you can see him as a winner-because he never gave up, even though his reward was diffrential.

if that's not clear, than i'm afraid its too complicated in english for me to explain.
