Anyone know where I could purchase a backplate used for mounting the CPU fan? My fan mounting bracket busted clean off on one of my pc's. I thought purchasing a cool new zalman fan would have the backplate but alas, it does not. My mobo is a M2N SLI Deluxe (AM2)
CPU fans that are out of spec when it comes to weight, come with a backplate, the others dont. so if your Zalman is in spec, you dont need a backplate, thus it's not included. anyhow, if your mounting bracket is busted, you can't simply replace it with a backplate? those two things don't have the same function. in most cases however you can find mounting brackets at specialised stores (i'm not american, cant help you there).
Humm I think you may be confused as to what I'm getting at. Here is a picture of someone elses mobo that has the same problem as mine. Thats what is broken for me. I'm not positive what the correct term for it is. Elaborate on "specialized stores". Electronic stores around here don't carry anything like this. I'm starting to think my only hope will be a venue such as Ebay.
The term you were looking for is "retention bracket." This is a backplate. You said that your socket is AM2? This one is the cheapest on Google Shopping, and the retailer has tons of positive reviews.
indeed. retention bracket or mounting bracket are most commonly used. the backplate is what goes on the back of a motherboard to help carry the weight of an out of spec (overweight) cooler.
Hey Maphusio, I've used Scythe Retention Kit for my cooler - http://www.scythe-eu.com/en/products/pc-accessory/universal-retention-kit.html This kit has backplate, screws for mounting cooler and additional mounting brackets.
