I love Raiders.

I love them a lot.

They're an immortal part of the franchise in my humble opinion and a great tie to Mad Max. No one has really managed to capture the spirit of these guys in any other post-apocalypse game save, possibly, The Walking Dead. So which gang of Raiders do you enjoy the most? Note, we'll be stretching definitions a bit as a few other more organized groups engage in Raider-like behavior which technically qualifies them. This includes the Crimson Caravan Company and Van Graffs.

Say why and what you like about them.

The underdog-supporter in me goes for the Jackals+Vipers because their ambition is endearing :V

I like your very inclusive definition of "raider", since the word has never been meant to strictly define a group, rather illustrate a kind of behavior

This is something I have not noticed until now.

A bit? They aren't raiders. They shot up a bunch of caravans as part of their secret arrangement but it doesn't make them raiders.

But for me, the Great Khans. I like their persistence through history, several of their members are likeable (in New Vegas), I like their outfits and how they interact with other groups rather than just kill on sight. Barring NCR of course.

I do like the idea behind the Vipers and even the Jackals, but unfortunately by New Vegas they are reduced to roadside bandits. It would have been interesting to develop and see more of the other two raider groups that originated from Vault 15. There's more information on the Vipers but not much on the Jackals.

For me, I have to choose the Great Khans for their sheer iconic status. They are the longest lasting gang of bandits and scum in the land. They're also humanized and enjoyable.

Afterward, I have to choose the Capital Wasteland Raiders. Not because they have personality, they don't really, but for the simple fact they're so delightfully fun to kill. I also think Paradise Falls and the Brotherhood Outcasts make up for their lack of personality in general.

I agree with the others about the Great Khans. They feel rather fleshed-out and more like a people instead of a gang. It makes it tough to murder them all in New Vegas, whereas the other raiders are almost all instantly hostile and easy to dehumanize.

Raiders should always be a minor part of the franchise.

Fallout 1s presentation of them where there was only 1 gang to be interacted with, and 1 that attacks caravans was probably the best one.

Having Raiders pretty much everywhere like future Fallout games present seems blatantly unrealistic.

"Raiders", in the litteral sense, are absent of New Vegas, and almost absent of Fallout 2. Despite being agressive NPCs, they don't raid for survival, they are simply organized societies/microsocieties clashing into each other. Which makes them more interesting, in my mind. Hell, even the Fiends can't really be considered as raiders, they are tribal lowlifes defending their turf against an invading force which wants to force them into submission.

I really like the idea of the Vipers. Makes me think of the religious motivations of the warboys in Mad Max: Fury Road, except that they fight for a matriarchal, tribal nobility worshipping snakes and raising kidnapped children. That's a very original concept, and I'm glad that even generic enemies got such a backstory.

A raider is defined as a person who attacks an enemy in the enemy's territory. Seeing as how the NCR invaded their territory, I guess the NCR are the raiders. :P

I guess "in reality", the term "raider" would be quite easily thrown around, especially in an environment where factions often resort to violence in order to maintain or grow their power. One party raids another, cutting supplies or something - and in so doing, they become "raiders", even if only temporary

It's not unthinkable that the NCR might have been regarded as "raiders" by some, during their initial growth

Nuka World bois.

Me like the teddy bear armor. 'Twas mucho fresh.
Gage? A raider companion? Mucho fresh.
Those low-key Jewish mercenaries? They were mucho fresh.
That one woman that sounded like Symmetra? You guessed it, semi-decent.

Zip. Nuka. Cola. Oh boy. I'm dead inside.

I prefer to think of raiders like vikings. Where most of the people in the raider groups don't raid. It is the leaders who lead raiding parties to build up their status and wealth. It would explain how the big raider group survived for over a hundred years.
