Playing Fallouts for the first time - Patch Questions

Hello everybody :)

I have never played Fallout 1 or 2 before but I would like to join the elite group of lucky fellas who have.

I have a widescreen monitor (1680x1050) and would like to have the game look as good as possible.

That is why I would like to know which bug fixing & resolution/visuals improving patches or mods would you recommend for both games

Cheers and Thanks in advance

Coming back to fallout 2 after 10 years

Bored with all the RPGs out there at the moment and would like to dust off Fallout2 again.

I see that there has been a lot of modding done, and woule like to playthrough one time with as many mods installed as possible.

The Restoration Mod and the Mega Mod look very intersting. Do they play together nicely?

WHat about the Vista mod? Does it go with them?

And the 800 fixes unoffical patch?

Thanks in advance,
Michi

Sdrastwuj Mischa :D ,

1. NO, Killap's RP and MIB's MM are NOT Compatible with each other.

2. I do not know a mod named like that, cannot help you sorry.

3. The unofficial patch is already included in RP 1.2, so you do not need to install extra.

LG,
Mr.Wolna

and have fun with fallout 2.

Essential tweaks/mods for FO 1 & 2

Hey everyone, I've rediscovered FO 1 & 2 recently in the rubble of ruins known as my basement, and I'm wondering what are the essential mods/tools I should use this time around. I know Sfall is a must have for FO 2, but I'm wondering what else there is, and what I should get for FO 1.

Hope this was the appropriate section...not totally sure, since I'm new here.

Well, there's also high-resolution patch for both versions and if you played Fallout 2 before, you might consider trying Fallout Restoration Project by killap.

The link for Fallout 1's high resolution patch is down, also, the link to the Timeslip fallout 1 engine tweaks actually links to Fallout 2's engine tweaks.

I just installed Fallout 1 and downloaded the following patches/mods:

-v.1.2 patch by TeamX
-v.1.3.5 patch by TeamX
-High Resolution Patch Ver 2.2b
-Ammo Patch v1.1 by Celestial
-NPC Mod by TeamX v3.5
-Restoration Mod Part 2 v1.0b1 by Wasteland Ghost

These should all be compatible. Please correct me if im wrong.

Now I have some questions:
What about the ammo patch? Do I need that one? Is it not included in any of the other patches I mentioned above?

And do I have to pay attention to the order in which I install the patches?

What about sfall for Fallout 1? I just found it for FO2
Is sfall needed for a good playthrough or can I leave that one out?

greetings and many thx for any help

Bethestard here

That's right, guys, my only experience with the series is Fallout 3. When I first came here, I was like 'whoa, what's with the hate, man?' but then I got to thinking... if an entire community of (clearly hardcore) Fallout fans does not appreciate the direction Bethesda went in with their entry in the series, that must mean that they think that past games in the franchise are better!

Don't get me wrong. I'm not here to dispute that claim, no. I'm actually here to broaden my horizons, to open my mind. Why, you ask? Well, I enjoyed Fallout 3 very much despite its shortcomings (many of which I was well aware of - F3 is what got me interested in the series, enough so that I began to look into the lore and notice how off this game could be at times). So, when I got here, and I saw the general attitude towards the game, one thought came to mind...

"If Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 really are better, than what the hell am I waiting for? I gotta try 'em out for myself!"

So I bought 'em. They're downloading as we speak. My question to you fine Fallout fans is this - how can I enhance my experience? I mean, these are ooooold games, and while I understand that that doesn't render them unplayable, I would like to know if there are any must have mods or extensions that'll make my first foray into pre-Bethesda Fallout more enjoyable.

Don't play the game without the Restoration Project or Unofficial patches (unofficial patches included in the RP). But currently the RP is at 1.2 and 1.3 is ALMOST out and its going to be amazing. RP is more then just a mod, it puts in all the content the original developers wanted to put in before release, but they couldn't. But the RP solves that problem.

Either you can wait a little longer and play RP 1.3(when it comes out, soon!!!) or just play 1.2 now if you are really eager.

Start with Fallout 1 first, then do Fallout 2. By the time you get there, RP 1.3 will hopefully be out.

The only mods i play fallout 1 with are:

1.high resolution mod

2.engine tweaks (so you can scroll the inventory with the mouse wheel and stuff like that).

Look for both in the files section, have fun.
