I guess I always thought throwing weapons were overpowered for these reasons:
1 Low damage = more exp
2 Very Fast, makes up for low damage
3 Never need ammo
4 Indestructable, that's right, take that ore golem!
5 Ranged, kill most enemies before they are dangerous
6 Mastery quest was quite easy compared to others
