Why are the weapons in Fallout 4 so bad?

I just wished they ditched the entire aspect of pipe weapons. They look like shit, they're useless pass the first few levels, their modifications barely change anything, and their value is too low to be of any use while bartering. They're essentially the first weapon you get in an MMO - completely unneeded pass the tutorial, which in this case already gave you one of the better weapons in the game from the very start, so what was the point?

They could've literally taken the weapons off New Vegas, brushed it up with a newer texture, slapped it into the game, and I wouldn't mind in the least. New Vegas didn't have the greatest looking, greatest sounding guns in the history of shooters, but it didn't need to. They were basic conventional firearms that filled the space and that was the important part - looking like something people would actually use in real-life. At least the energy weapons had the excuse of being, well, energy weapons. The pipe pistol could've been replaced by any real-life pistol inserted into the game with the least amount of effort and it still would've been better.

The most asinine part for me came when the magazines in the game outright stated that pipe weapons existed before the war as homemade makeshift firearms. I'm not even going to try and justify that, you can all figure out for yourself why that's stupid.

"Pipe Weapons"

You mean piss guns?
These "Pipe Weapons" are literally just wood put together to make a "firearm", but then someone takes a long piss on it and it's called a "Pipe Weapon".

Does anyone actually use the pipe weapons?
I mean, every RPG has tiers of weapons and some will become redundant but who here really clung to their pipe revolver weapons?

Pipe weapons don´t have any use, gameplay-wise. The player can get a 10mm pistol inside the vault. They just there to make sure that the player doesn´t get many ouchies.

Then you have to be way better of a shot than I am cause I run out of ammo constantly if I just rely on one weapon.

I remember ditching mine the very moment I first looted an assault rifle(which was early on in the game). As for the 10mm pistol, I found ammo easily but you know how spongey those enemies are. Imagine in people in real life were like that?(I know totally off topic but I just had to say it).

Well, in real life people can soak up a lot of bullets actually.
Doesn't mean they'll survive but y'know.

I fill enough humans with bullets in Fallout 4 that I should be able to scrap the raider corpses on my settlement for extra metal, yet I cannot. Immersion failure, 0/10 Bethesda.

I only used the Pipe Weapons early in the game because I added a fully automatic mod and a large drum magazine. Other than that I never used them except when I was traveling around with a ton of my settlers, seeing if they could survive the wasteland.

We lost a settler at Diamond City while fighting Super Mutants. Then we lost two other settlers because of more Mutants. 23 out of the 26 I sent out made it to the airport.
