Why don't supermutants carry heavy weapons?

Until F3, supermutants carry big guns and energy weapons. The ones in F3 however use... mostly hunting rifles. :? They are better off rushing with their fists.

With a mod, I've finally fought a supermutant carrying heavy weapons, and it was awesome. I shot him with a rocket, and he shot a rocket right back! That was insanely cool. Then he pulled out a flamer, and
I shat my pants. It was awesome. They are walking tanks and can blast like one.

Goddamn Bethesda ruined something awesome. Goddamn lame supermutants with hunting rifles.

Because in Fo3, Supermutants are generic enemy mobs and the player can encounter them at any time. This means, they also must be weak enemies, else the player will start to cry if he can't beat them in early levels.

They might have fixed that in the new one. I can't recall.

Having Fallout 4 for a couple of hours now.. I have of course already encountered a 'Super Mutant'. He came at me with a wooden board...the Orcs from Fallout 3 are back unfortunately.

This is one of my main gripes with Fallout 3 on JUST a gameplay front, let's pretend that lore isn't even an argument to be had. On just a gameplay front, Super Mutants had a huge decline in their position. It used to be you had an EXTREMELY hard time tangling with them until you had at LEAST Combat Armor. Now, you can walk out in your Vault suit at level 1, with a baseball beat and kill one.

Hell, Fallout 3 was my first game, I didn't even play any Bethesda game until it. I had no idea the map marker was a thing, so I spent hours roaming around, and of course, stumbled open mutants. A total newb on a low level account beat three of those things charging at me at once with a goddamn 10mm. Ain't that some shit?

On a lore front (if you want to call Bethesda's plots that) I can actually see WHY they wouldn't carry around Big Guns and Energy Weapons. Let's consider Fallout 1, Fallout 1 the reason that the super mutants had them was they WERE legitimately an army. Where did they spawn from? A military base. What would a military base have? Guns, lots and lots of guns. More than likely big guns and energy weapons would be in abundance. Because of that, The Master could easily supply them with weapons.

FO3 doesn't get the same token. They're big dumb brutes who most likely pick up their supplies from random raiders, travelers, and perhaps a vault or two. They're less interesting and sadly that makes them a lot less dangerous since their skin's probably only as tough as combat armor (at best). They seem to run on instinct more than anything because Vault 87 makes retarded super mutants where as the Master was much more careful in his selection. 87 mutants seem to have a primal instinct of "make more because reasons."

It does make sense, but it doesn't make it good.

To point out the obvious, Super Mutants shouldn't be there in the first place.
You have free license to make up anything you want.
Okay, super mutants it is.
Goddamn it.

On terms of lore, I would like to see an exploration of of FO4 Super Mutants' master race beliefs, albeit in a more intelligent fashion. Maybe an army of Super Mutants that all possess human level intelligence and talk and believe like Nazis, in their own superiority.

They would be more uniformed and less in random metal armour, and would be less "brute like" and more "precise" in combat, and would actually present a formidable threat in that they aim at the imprisonment and extermination of every race that isn't them.

Plenty of the Fallout 4 SMs believed that they were the superior race, and I thought that it had potential if they weren't just written off as dumb brutes that act like raiders.

Okay, okay, "Nazi Super Mutants" sounded better in my head.

I disagree with everything you say because its not consistent with the lore.

Still could've been worse. They could've made feral ghouls the only ghouls.
