Windows 95 with Direct 3.0a ??

Everything seems to be in order with your files so I'm really at a loss as what the problem could be.

Maybe it's related to your version of the game being chinese.

Anyway, you should try asking Timeslip in his thread or via PM as I'm pretty sure that it's a problem with sFall.

Sorry I could not be of much help.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, the timestamp of Fallout2.exe is wrong. Shouldn't it have a 2010 date?

Not unless it has been modified this year.

For reference my Fallout2.exe is also from 12/11/1998.

Later in this thread he says he installed the unofficial patch instead.
And looking at his files, they are the ones that comes with the patch, though sfall has been updated.

You're right, my bad. I googled the error message - this thread shows up, suggesting renaming the exe file helps, for whatever reason.

If it's not that, I can imagine using something like "directx happy uninstaller" can seriously mess up your directx installation, so if nothing else works, a Windows reinstall should be considered.

When you rename the exe file you lose any compatibility setting you may have, simple as that. Renaming it back will restore the previous compatibility settings though (I don't know where that info is stored but I suspect it's in the registry).

I too am a bit curious about this "directx happy uninstaller" thingie.
Why did you use that? It shouldn't be necessary. I have vista with dirextX10 and have no problems installing the directX9 thing.

Well. I have the RP installed and as I said before my .exe it's the same as his/her one with the same date and size.

Are you sure you did not modify it and forgot about it?

Or maybe it's because of the Hi-res patch extra in the installer which I didn't install.
