Would the fallout vault gear door design work ?

Falloutfred

First time out of the vault
I'm asking more for the designs in fallout 3 and new vegas since the gear doors in fallout 2 and 1 where slitly different but them as we'll would be interesting to go over.
I was thinking how would it survive a blast because apart from friction there nothing really holding it in. And you would only be able to close it a few time because of erosion. And the fact that it rolls to the side after being opened could that be archived by weight shifting ? Or by lowering the floor were in one place where the gear is so it rolls. Any way I don't know so that's why I'm asking.

Playing through the game, I haven't seen anything resambling a locking mechanism, beyond the doors own weight. Furthermore, I think it rolls aside by shifting ground, as you said, but that's debatable.

I know that the original vault concepts and the door, had more logic behind them and just as Bethesda proved... you simply can't put logic and common sense into their games.
