Your opinion on Manhunt

Janeus

First time out of the vault
Much controversy has come over this game in the past year. The parents of the murdered child in the UK blamed the game Manhunt for influencing the killer. They then found out that Manhunt was their son's favourite game (the boy who was killed) and not the killers, and withdrew their claim thaqt it was caused by Manhunt (although the media still called the killer the "Manhunt killer".

Anyway, I have this game and have passed it on the pc (in fetish, havn't had the patience to go back and play Hardcore). I enjoyed it thoughly and found it satysfying. the media attention made it much more enjoyable as you would expect.

To set the discussion guidelines (ie, what to respond to):
Discuss your opinions on Manhunt.

Great to know there's another Manhunter fan out there!

I've played both of them, and I would play them still if they only still ran on my computer... I actually own the original, boxed versions of both Manhunter1: New York and Manhunter 2: San Fransisco.

They are both gems in the old-skool-Sierra-adventure genre; but unfortunately, mainly due to the rather... expicit and sometimes shocking content (well... It was then, anyway), it never attracted more than a cult following.

Still, I don't see how it could possibly drive someone to kill a person... An old game like that?

Manhunt was kinda fun, but got repetitive and bored me soon enough, never got past that mission where you have to rescue your family members.

Manhunt isn't a shitty game.
It's excelent. The only people who say it sucks are people who havn't played it and parent watchdog groups (i hate those fucking things).

i think it sucks

i'm not a member of a parent watchdog shitgroup and i've played it...

so, does that mean my opinion doesnt count for you the almighty and alknowing Janeus?

No more attacking/flaming each other in this thread, alright? Stick to the topic.

I thought the game was pretty fun for awhile, but it did get repetitive fairly quickly. I lost interest around the zoo level, maybe I'll pick it up again though. As for the watchdog groups, they're only slightly less idiotic than the moronic and sociopathic kids who supposedly mimic what they see in video games.

haha, yes.
its been the only game that i have actually had the patience to see through the whole way. It does get repeditive, but the next level, you get GUNS!!
SuAside, you dont need to be that way, i am just voicing my opinion, and you are free to voice yours, as you have. I am sorry I generalized in my last sentance.

leads me to wonder what the hell you are doing on a Fallout forum, if you didnt even play it til the end...

:) Good point, SuAside

I think pretty much the same way as Montez - it was fun for a while, but then got repetitive. Anyway, I had lots of laughs with most of the death animations, which are the best part of the game - and the sound effects.. Damn fine job there . . 8)

Actually, one of the aspects of Fallout I´ve always enjoyed are the juicy, amazing and totally satisfying death animations . .

DAMN!
another typo, thats what happenes when i am trying to type fast.
Manhunt is the only game i have had the patience with recently, in the year 2004. I am on these forums because i love fallout but i never got it (that is, purchasing). All i remember is someone lending it to me and then going to my dad's work and playing it all day. But, i have ordered it now, i should be arriving in two weeks \(^0^)/ YAY

:) Good for you man . . I hope you ordered a bundle with both FOs - and FOT ain´t bad either.

Anyway, try to begin with FO 1.

Actually, FOT is good - if you´re into Jagged Alliance or X-Com like lots of FO-fans are, you´d love it.
I hated it to begin with when it was released, but when I gave it a chance, I realized all those fears of it being a total rip-off had been false all along.

Now, that console-crap is a different matter all together ;) Ain´t gonna touch it - Never-ever-never.

FOT might have been good if it were a decent Fallout game or strategy game. It is a given how the setting was poorly handled, unfinished parts of the game, broken aspects of the game, a mass of bugs, outright unplayability on many systems, and much more, and how that Jagged Alliance 2 spanks the living shit out of FOT in terms of just about everything except for multiplayer capability. And multiplayer in FOT is usually shit unless you find one of the few good groups to be involved with. It used to be nothing but clannie drugmatches, and a few of the more "respectable" clannies went along enforced rules because the designers didn't have the foresight to develop team-based features that would have taken little to implement. The inclusion of limitations and creatable rulesets or limitations would have been a much better idea, given the game design, and might have made quite a difference in how the game was treated/viewed.

Even Oakden isn't delusional about it...

Delusional or not, I liked it - I don´t prefer it to FO or FO2 by any means. Anyway, when I played it through, it felt like a solid, enjoyable game - no questions asked.

A true Fallout? Hardly. A good game? Sure.

I rest my case :)

I really liked it for a while but now that I have started playing Fo2 again, doing different interesting stuff like making a purely unarmed character I don't think Ill play fot for a long long time. Also, does anyone know if a melee only character would do well in Fo1? Anyway to get back on topic, It is completely moronic the way people seem to think that playing violent games influences you to act out what you see. There are millions of people playing cs but have you ever heard on the news of some guy running around dressed as a counter-terrorist shooting people with a AWM? I think not. (for all of you cs geeks who think its AWP, go here).
