EDIT: 2.3.1 has been pulled due to a serious bug in New Reno. Just goes to show that rushing a release before the New Year has its consequences. Keep using 2.3 for now and wait for the upcoming 2.3.2 release.

Two releases in the same month!? (Well, for those in the Western hemisphere) Yup, that's right. To further make the RP as perfect as it can be, I'm releasing another update. The version number didn't increase much, but there are still several important fixes and even new unlocked content!

So here's my New Years gift to you all. I now need a long break from all this and it'll probably be quite some time before I return to modding, at least so I claim ;). I'm also still planning on releasing sources for both the RP and UP. Expect that in a day or so.

Note: Previous 2.2 save games should be compatible, but to ensure no problems come up please start anew. There are some areas that will potentially break with old saves unless you enter them for the first time. 2.3 saves are even more compatible but better safe than sorry. You've been warned.


Bug reports should be added to the Fallout 2 RP bug report wiki. A link can be found below. Posting only in this thread risks your report being lost over time.


Installation instructions:

1. Make a clean installation of Fallout 2 (humongous install). If you are running Visa/7/8, be sure to NOT install in the c:\program files directory.
2. Download and install the RP (only use the manual install if you really know what you're doing)
3. That's it. Don't install anything else, unless you know what you're doing!

• Unlocked dialogue for Cassidy where he talks about his dislike of Myron. This is all vanilla and I swear it was unlocked long ago, but seems to have been lost. Anyway, it's back!

New Reno:

• Extended the dance sequence that you can do as a female player at the Shark Club.
• Wiping out a gang family causes the casino to become abandoned (i.e. you can't gamble anymore, the patrons leave, etc).

EPA:

• Killing the spore plants on the Green Level no longer counts towards wiping out the plants on the surface.

Vault 13:

• Unlocked conversation with Goris asking him about his true identity. This was prevented before by bad vanilla scripting.

Random Encounters:

• Fixed crashes with Kaga. Most cropped up due to saving/loading during his encounter, but this should also make his encounter more stable in general as well. Also potentially fixes the issue where you would encounter Kaga but the map would be empty.

Misc:

• Added high-res patch v3.06 as a legacy option in the installer for Mac OS users and those that need to use an older version of the high-res mod because of graphic/UI problems.
• Installer fix for Russian translation: Deselecting Cassidy's new voice will correctly NOT copy over the Russian voiced files. Before, the Russian voice files were always copied over when you chose the Russian language, no matter what Cassidy options you set.
• Several vanilla fixes that I won't list here (unofficial patch docs has that info), but I want to at least mention it so you don't think this release of the RP isn't worth the update. ;)

RP 2.3.1? Oh yeah... I remember hearing about it back then in 2013 ;)

You take a break from modding but part of your soul is probably already imprinted in RP's code:)

I know, right? I should have waited a day just to get that new digit. ;) But I promised before the end of the year and now...hopefully...I can start the year with piece of mind in regards to the RP.

Happy new year, and thanks for fixing Fallout 2 for us :] It really is an awesome feat, not to be taken for granted :]

Wow Killap, I thought you finished the Restoration Patch ages ago? Before I had to leave the forum (almost a year ago) you'd said that you were putting out one last version of it O.O

What's the status on the RP now, Killap? You finished or is there more to come?
 
Whoa. Cool. Time for me to dig out my old F2 CD...

(Can I keep my old F2RP212b folder on my hard drive or should I root it out first? Uninstall, delete folder, run CCleaner, Regedit, etc.)



And here's a completely different question: Where is the best place or places for a Russian with very little English to post with technical and/or gameplay questions?
 
Awww.... I just started a playthrough with 2.3.0 + Endocore's update on Miria mod... too bad I'll miss the Cassidy lines about Myron :(

Anyway... @killap, Per's guide and The Vault mention that one of the kids in trapper town (klamath) has a scout hand book which can be stolen, but I double/triple/quadruple checked and I'm positive that the book is missing. Maybe it is a bug?
 
Looks like there are some bugs in New Reno about the casinos now:
1. Entering the 2nd floor of Desperado and waiting a bit, the screen will fade in and stuck in pitch black with only some monitor screens visible.
2. While at the 2nd Street, sometimes the screen will fade in/out with [1 hour passed] in message box, changing the window focus to Shark Club, and a dialog window supposedly with Shark Club manager about your talk show might pop up if you're close to him or somewhere else.
3. Probably related to the above. At 2nd floor of Salvatore's Bar, the same fade in/out & message will happen randomly, and focus changed to the 2nd floor of Shark Club (which in the same elevation of the map).

Yes a new RP Build just in time for the new year!! Thank you Killap, Bear dude, for your continued support of this wonderful whale of a game. Please never stop, Moby Dick just won't die, much like our love of playing Fallout2. Happy New Year to you :drunk::drunk:

Yeah, it's the kid standing between the cars the first time you enter Trapper Town.

By the way killap, the kids (girls) in Klamath still use the old art for boys, should they not be changed?

Sigh. So I did notice the [1 hour passed] thing and fade in/out and reposition issue when I was testing and I wondered why it was happening. I was running the Russian translation at the time and assumed my build was just confused, but not the scripts in question being at fault. I had never seen it before and I hardly changed anything when I first noticed it happening. Guess I was wrong. I see no reason why my changes would have caused that at all though.

Well, alright, this is serious enough that a 2.3.2 is due out in a day or so to address it. But for tonight, I rest.

EDIT: And actually, I'm going to pull 2.3.1 and put back 2.3. For the time being, everyone should just keep playing 2.3 and wait for 2.3.2.

Also, question to Darek - will there be any changes for the current 2.3 walkthrough or is it done for 2.3.1/2?
 
can't become made man (had even crashes) when trying to visit Salvatore after the last (secret transfer) quest in a desert. Speak with Mason - answers with the floating text and if try to open a door - becomes aggresive. After the transaction did some other quests - Bishops were already wasted, Mordino at first refused to give any quest, but after the secret transfer (but before collecting reward - made man of Salvatore) gave some of them. Wright's were ok :) so what's the problem?
Also noticed, that charisma dropped by 1 point (while being in New Reno, have save with 6 points, later on - only 5 :( ) - what could be the reason for that?

my setup:
- Windows XP SP3 (had to upgrade from SP2 to try to launch Fallout + RP, had "requires Windows 95 with DirectX 3.0a or later" message);
- DirectX 9.0c of June 10th, 2010;
- RP 2.3 with all options on;
- Sfall 3.2 r254 win2k by NovaRain (XP version gives "requires Windows 95 with DirectX 3.0a..." message,
tried Hi-Res: basic mode/directX9 8/32 bit colours at 800x600 resolution - only win2k ddraw.dll resolved the issue);


slots 18 & 19 http://we.tl/T4AokEdyLw (link alive for 1 week)
 
A finished the game, but after a final video game unexpectedly quits to desktop. No voice narrations, no ability to continue playing after ending. RP v2.3.
Has anybody run into such problems?

Update:
after i reverted all gfx settings to basic, and disabled high res patch

If i exit last door - game after video crashes
If i do "rest until all party healed" - game shows video and that exits to main menu (without continue play prompt)

Now that`s obscure and this is pisses me off, because i`d like to play more and see results of my 7 day game play :(

ps updating to current release does not help either

How many kids are suposed to be in the area? I checked every room, alley, corner, you name it, in combat mode and out of it, and I'm positive there are only 03 (in my game, at least) - none of them have the goddamned handbook...


Another question: is there a way to deactivate Cassidy's voice? Maybe deleting some files? I'm almost ashamed of not liking the voiceacting, considering is was done with such passion and goodwill for the game and the community... but I gotta go back to silent Cassidy, I'm sorry....

Isn't there a kid in Klamath who has a 10mm pistol or something? I seem to remember one of the kids having something like that (in the downtown area), but I might be confusing him w one kid who has a beer and a molotov cocktail.
The kids will sometimes run off the map, I've noticed, so whenever I enter trapper town, I go straight for the kid with the book, who should be the "upper" of two kids standing right next to the cars (the other kid has flowers). Once they start running about, there's no telling where they end up, so I am usually quite quick to secure that book for an early boost.
