Corporate internet scouring robots are now reading about "pot vs booze" and other random threads, sucking up information/data and posting habits of everyone. Tell me this is not about $$$. "What is wrong with our culture?"

Check the Robots tab to see what they're up to. Maybe I should be getting paid if these corporate dogs are making so much money off my data?

If you can program it then it'd be a shame not to make a buck off it I suppose.

Now just imagine actual robots following you around every day recording your life. Mostly reporting what you buy and your budget if you've one at all. Makes it sound more creepy as this is what it is in a slight sense.

How would that be even remotely profitable? Having a robot follow every single individual around is quite an expense. Much more so than simply using the easily available statistics from each individual store to determine the type and price range of product that the average customer is most likely to buy.

And as a result... the average customer gets a product he is more likely to be satisfied with. Truly a frightening idea.

If you want to make money, a good idea would be to offer people a service or a product they would like to buy. You know, kinda like what these vicious corporate dogs are doing.

EDIT: Sorry for the double post, it was an accident.

Truly is a frightening idea. How dare they offer great customer product satisfaction.

Though it is expensive now it might not be so much in the future; it was more of a comparison despite how asinine it is. I'm sure there would be someway to make it profitable. Data mining to the extreme man. To the extreme.

I thought those robots were just parts of the search engines that appear when someone using that search engine gets results from this forum?
I mean, those robots are not new, as far as I know, they've always been around.

Yes for the first part. They don't appear when search engines get results from here though, they need to crawl a page first before it can even appear in a search engine.
Activity is probably increased at the moment because of the recently changed board software and the new URI format that came with it.

Yeah, that's more what I meant. It was too early for me to have a proper grasp of the english language.

The only bot I know is the one that always beats me at chess. *shakes fist* One day! ONE DAY I WILL BE ON TOP! What? He's laughing at me, I am sure!

Be on top? Shaking fist? Is that robot you speak of called Fisto? >_>

This is normal... bots are always crawling sites. Usually they're different search engines. Google Adsense likely crawls to try and figure out which ads would work best on certain pages. Those ads pay our hosting fees.

Or the Institute is slowly replacing users with bots, dun dun dun. Regulars start posting odd out character things. Heck some of us might be bots and we don't even know it.
