My main complaint on the new Deus Ex games

On their own, I think they are pretty decent. Human Revolution being superior to Mankind Divided but they are solid games on their own. However the shift of narrative and themes from the intrigue and conspiracies of the original Deus Ex over to this trans-humanist dilemma was overall a mistake. The world Deus Ex painted to us was a fascinating rabbit hole, thought provoking, and makes you uncomfortable after realizing that some of the conspiracies in the game aren't so far fetched as they seem. The original had elements of trans-humanism but it wasn't a very big part of it, but with the new games there really isn't any mystery or intrigue at all. What is there is more like an homage to the original since it's supposed to be a prequel, but in terms of focus it's quite a different game.

A return to form would make for a much better experience in my opinion, but that's just my two cents.

Well it depends on whether you think the games should be a complete recreation of the original conspiracy or have the option of diverging into their own narrative. The new Deus Ex games have a much stronger emphasis on transhumanism than the original game but, notably, not Deus Ex: Invisible War as that was the entire point of that game. The whole point of IW was whether humanity would go back to the Dark Sides, become a gestalt entity of cyborgs ("Synthesis!"), or whether they would stay the same with the Illuminati having complete technocratic control over the Earth forever.

My big issue was Mankind Divided totally reversed the position of cyborgs in the world: they were first people who had privilege of power and wealth and were now using it to become physically stronger/more beautiful/better than the poor.

I can see what you mean, in that respect I wish they included genetic engineering in their narrative. The future won't just be integrating ourselves with machines, it will include altering our DNA and making ourselves superior biologically.

True, albeit the future of "nanites" postulated by the original game is a mixture of genetic engineering and technology merged together.

I do think they've gone away from the "conspiracy of the rich to kill the poor" elements which feel even more timely to something a bit more fanciful as you say.

My main complaint was that they tacked on a mutliplayer feature no one was clamoring for; when they could have used that time/money/talent to make another hub or two for some more of Prague. It really stinks to no have no way to get to Charles bridge for instance.

Even when narrative in Mankind divided was a bit weaker than in HR (never played the original game), it is a good game. My complaints are mostly about the poor engine performance and excessively long dialogs.
