Favorite cuisine?

What's your favorite type of food to eat, ethnically, if you can define it? Lately I've noticed that I like a lot of the stuff in the Russian cuisine, cabbage, pickles, dark rye bread, 'basic' vegetables like broccoli (not sure if this is Russian), etc. Good hearty stuff.

I also like Vietnamese and well, when visiting France there was a lot of stuff there that was very good but also fattening etc. I'm not a vegetarian yet but I'm slowly moving in that direction. I've been vegetarian for a few months and you have to plan it.

I don't have a clear cut definition for a "favorite". Good food is good food, be it Russian, Chinese, Indian, Finnish, French, Italian, Mexican, what ever. But the general tone of what I prefer, regardless of influence or point of origin, is spicy and creamy. A chicken soup with lots of pepper and spiced butter cheese is wonderful; so is chili-tomatosoup with paprika and bratwurst that is softened with smetana; for example.

I can appreciate a vegetable dish, nothing wrong with good veggies, but I do prefer to have some meat with my meals.

I haven't even explore enough of the worlds foods to know, if being fat wasn't so unattractive, I would just gorge everything

I had some very strange pakistani pastries once, the one and only time I was invited to someone's pakistanis birthday, neighbors of mine when I was little, they just decided to invite everybody, they were crunchy pastries, and very spicy, ever since I've been curious of them, and wanting to try again

I was also invited to an african family once, Sierra Leonean to be precise, who served me goat meat with a vegetable stew and rice, it was very nice

The only other african I had was little pastry snacks from a booth, they were triangular, crunchy exterior, and filled with veggies and meat. I would buy one every day at lunch time, when I worked in the same mall

Also, in the same store, me and this Iraqi guy would snack snacks that were doomed to be tossed away, such as spinach and feta böreks, and feta-filled chilis. Yum, yummily yum!

Basically what Kohno said. Good food is good food, but unlike Kohno I don't really have a general tone of preference. I just love food, especially since I'm currently learning to cook for awhile now. Although, that might have been because my experience isn't enough since I haven't yet tried other kinds of food from the other side of the globe, unfortunately.

Just exercise regularly, or at the very least take lots of walk around your neighborhood. I've been eating like crazy these days now that I'm learning to cook. To prevent obesity I'm actually exercising nearly every day now, though there were days where I'm just getting lazy. Trust me, it's worth all the food you get to eat.

I like making food, cooking, baking, etc. too. It's something I try to get better at. I don't think I've ever had any African food. Plenty of eastern food, kebab etc. but no African. I know they are lucky in that over there in Africa all the fruit and vegetables are available year round and fresh and cheap, at least in South Africa. Lot's of coastline means there's a lot of fish there, well as long as the fish stems aren't reduced too much.

Just gotta love the family's Mexican. Well sauced and complemented Tacos Dorados must be probably be served at heaven's gates.

Mexican food is great, and I hear it's even better at the 'source', in Mexico. Made by a real 'old school' Mexican chef, lol. Also lot's of cheap fruits and veggies available at the town markets over there, lot's of fish etc. Great country, although you'll never hear it in the western media.

Just to clarify, I'm not a vegetarian now but have been for some months in the past. I don't preach it, some can try it if they want. Positives were you'll feel a lot lighter throughout the day, negatives are you have to really plan your eating if you do physical work or exercise hard and eat a lot. Then again some people like eating so it's good for those folks.

I think also the infamous Tex-Mex hurt a bit mexican food's reputation. SUPER CHEESE NACHOS almost make me puke, it's just potato masse with dust all over. One does miss those some ingredients that aren't imported, like actual spicy sauce n' clamato, among others.

I can see being a vegetarian, but I just find it kind of unnatural. Until I was 10 or so, I was VERY allergic to Gluten, so I had to eat weird shit until that age. And my parents still buy that kind of things, not all bad, becouse of the habit. And I swear that crippling your own diet when you can opt that out just makes you feel all kinds of bad. Ther's nothing better like eating a big fuckoff steak or confectionery. And I myself am not even a big meat guym but you just gotta have to sometime.

I love Mexican food. I used to live in El Paso where Mexican food was EVERYWHERE. Authentic Mexican cuisine, although this was Texas and even though it was made by Mexican families (most restaurants were family-owned), it was kinda Tex-Mex. Californian Mexican food is something else. It's an experience of its own hahaha.

I love Thai pad thai and nasigoreng. For Chinese I like sweet and sour chicken/pork, chow mein, or orange chicken (Yes, I know orange chicken and mein is Western).
There was this Japanese meat and noodle soup I had in a Japanese place once. I can't remember the name but it was good.
Southern Indian food is amongst one of my favorites. Go to a Indian place in your area, and order a thali dosai if you can. It is delicious.
And I live in Sri Lanka so I eat chicken curry, chili chicken, daal curry, pol sambol, rice, papadam, and green bean curry a lot.

That's not Russian, that's just food.

From what I hear, and I've heard it often, cabbage in it's different forms is important to the Russian cuisine. Pickles, well, I've seen they like that stuff too, this is less 'scientific' observation then the "Russians eat cabbage" -observation. I do know that you Germans dig your sauerkraut, I like it too but only when I heat it up first. I wish I could eat more German food, proper stuff. I have tried currywurst, not the proper stuff that you can only get in Berlin but storebought stuff.

Broccoli, well I said "basic vegetables". Stuff like broccoli and edible roots, rutabaga, turnips, etc.

The best Currywurst you get in the Ruhrpott, hands down.
My favourite cuisine, hm, hard to tell.
But I do love the Schäufele. It's the baked shoulder of a pig with dumplings and Sauerkraut or red cabbage.

Ah, what a beauty. A plate of food like that really is nice looking, and dare I say beautiful.

From Finnish cuisine I always recommend reindeer and moose stew with mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam, that's the traditional "tourists actually like it" -food. Karelian pies are good if you make them yourself, they are easy to make.
