Was Fallout 3 your introduction to the Fallout series?

I'll be honest about myself on this one. Yes, it was. Prior to fallout 3 I may have played fallout 1 when I was younger on my brother's pc, but I hardly remember it. I first got fallout 3 when I was 12. And it was my first introduction to the series. I know I know. I may have fucked up a bit. But as much as I dislike it now. I can't 100% hate it. Simply the old nostalgia factor and being it was my first introduction to the series. Which made me go back and play fallout 1 and 2 to form the opinion I hold today to say they're better games. And frankly new Vegas was apart of my love of fallout 2. Which put fallout 3 at the bottom until 4 came along. But to anybody here. Was Fallout 3 your introduction to the series?
 
To me it was as well. I mean I had no clue that something like Fallout existed, until my dad brought Failout 3 home and I gave it a go.

Of course I was younger back then and I enjoed it, just as I enjoyed it Skyrim. Now though, the only thing I see it is the end of the franchise, when betheshit got it hands on it.

Still, I can not say I hate it, not when shitout 4 exists. I despise it heavily, but thanks to it, I was introduced to the rest of the franchise.

I had heard from my older Brother that he played Fallout 2 many years ago, but alas I never knew this.

Yeah, Fallout 3 was very much my first Fallout game, and I loved it back then.
I still have a rather soft spot, maybe because there are still things that I find highly enjoyable about it.
Without the Fallout name, I guess I would have very little issues with it, but because it has Fallout slapped onto it, it just doesn't feel... that great?

Needless to say, I can't bring myself to dislike it, sure it has its problems, sure it hasn't aged well at all, but give the over abundance of meaningless Open-Worlds we've been given over the years, it at least has something to do most of the time (it's a shame that later titles would fall to the Meaningless shit again).

I can't fault the game for at least trying to be a game.
Maybe I'm just too soft on it, or maybe because I do actually enjoy Bethesda's game despite the fact I don't think they are that good of a developer.

Fallout 3 is still a very important game to me, without it, I doubt I would be here on this site and I doubt I'll want to be a Games Developer.
So I guess it has its high points.
 
Fallout 2 was my introduction to this series, the next will be the very first Fallout and Fallout Tactics.
About Fallout 3, i start to play it simply because i interesting about how will Bethesda handle it and the modding.
I have some fun back there since i don't have any actual expectation for it, i don't expect them to get it right, the modding also helps alot to let me able to overlook lots of issues it have.
Years later after i played great deal of New Vegas, i try to restart Fallout 3, and the first few mins of it is far more worse than i remember, thing don't get any better even after i heavily mod it like i used to, and i just can't play it anymore.
Fallout 3 is just a overrated and poorly aged game, it just happened to show up in the right time and the right place so it got lots of praise it don't actually deserved.
But still, there is no reason to hate it, Fallout 3 is just a bad game, and nothing more.
 
Fo3 wasn't my introduction to the Fallout series, but became my exit door to the whole continuous gameworld genre. After spending so much time killing the same generic ghouls in the same generic metro tunnels, while listening to the same 2-3 tunes on the in-game radio, it litterally exploded all the patience i had for the filler contents and all the flaws related to *open-world*.

Before that, i was interested in open-world. I had played the GTA series, i was interested in Red Dead Redemption, LA Noir or the asian-themed GTA-like. But beyond Fo3-FoNV i just doubt i can do it anymore. I might try The Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk 2077, some day, but i am not even sure of that. The scale issues, the generic contents, the fillers, the fast-travel teleport, the thinner actual content, the bad aging of pseudo-photo-realism graphics, and all the other flaws became much more glaring than before.
 
Yes, it was to me, even though i already had heard about the franchise before. Even then without knowing a thing about the series, i found the game extremely bland and totally forgettable. Now i think it's a really terribly made game that shits on pretty much the entire lore of the series.

At this point the only appreciation i have for this game is for introducing me to New Vegas, which to me is a fantastic game.
 
Yep, I used to play it a lot. Not for the story mind you, in fact I used to make up stories for any new characters I made and muck about the wasteland. Then I eventually tried Fallout 2 then 1, or 1 then 2, I can't remember. Like @Norzan said I can thank Fallout 3 for leading me to the originals and New Vegas.

You thought you fucked up playing it as the entry to the series when you were 12, I was a fucking 21 years old when I first played Fallout 3. And I actually loved it back then! UGH!

And unlike you who can't 100% hate it, I actually hate and disdain Fallout 3 with every fiber of my being. I regret buying the GOTY edition so much, especially since I didn't buy NV's Ultimate Edition and instead, only bought the vanilla version.
 
Yup. Hated it. Mechanics were frustrating, and the prologue just goes on for fucking ever. Mostly I wanted a way to cheat so I could ease into things. Got over that initial reaction when I found the scrap metal glitch. Didn't know everything was a caricature of existing factions, or that the plot was a quilt of plagiarized plot lines. So I see more of the flaws now but I still love it. Good games aren't flawless, they just compensate well for their flaws. It served as a good introduction to things. Though I can understand the hate.
 
First Fallout was the intro for me, then the second and then tactics, then 3, then NV and then 4... i guess I played them in the release order. :confused:
 
My friends bootleg copy of Fallout 2 was my hands-on introduction to the series (I think I still have the disc somewhere).

Fallout 3 introduced me to Bethesda's ignorance; I honestly didn't expect it to be as bad as it was even after getting told it'd be a first person shooter, I honestly expected most of the mechanics and flavors to remain at a somewhat enjoyable form inspite of the switch in perspectives (since I had played Morrowind and it was mechanically and aesthetically far closer to Fallout than Oblivion was). Well, wrong I was.
 
Kind of. Downloaded Fallout & FO2 shortly after the announcement to see what's this all about.
 
My introduction into the series was Fallout 1, 2, 3. and NV. When Fallout 3 came out I didn't like the writing but I had fun with the gameplay. But after playing New Vegas, I can't get back into Fallout 3 even with TTW.
 
Of course, but then i just start gaming when i am entering high school. I never consider fallout 3 a bad game, though i still remember i was loathing at the game ui and control back then. Also like everyone, cant get back to fallout 3 after i taste the juicy gameplay of fallout new vegas without TTW. Thanks @Risewild
 
Yes and no. I bought New Vegas and 3 together and struggled with New Vegas, then I moved to 3 and got the gist of the game. I thought it was an amazing game... until I got to New Vegas. I was dumbfounded with how much better this game was than 3. There were so many improvements and actual lore that drew me in. I loved exploring an endless desert with civilization scattered about trying to rebuild, grabbing amazing friends and companions to build my small army of friends to kick ass with.
 
Was a kid. Fallout 3 comes out to much hype. Never heard of the series before but played it, loved it. New Vegas comes out a few years later, loved it even more. Played 1 and 2. Holy goddamn liked them even better than Vegas, despite their age. They're now my favorite games. Why did I like 3 again? Like some said earlier, I can at least thank it for introducing me to other things much better than itself, and it's better than the complete abomination that is 4. At least it seems like they tried a bit, to make a Fallout game.
 
New Vegas was my introduction, and I think it was the first RPG I ever played. Still one of my favorite games of all time.

Oblivion was my first BGS game and I loved it. I watched the F3 trailer and I loved it. When I went to play ..... I did not love it so much. I thought it was a nice game, but repetitive, with a repetitive wasteland full of tunnels. It just was not as cool as Oblivion.

When Fallout NV was announced, I did not even bother. But I played anyway. It is my favorite game of all time and made me have an interest in knowing the first two games, which I did and I ended up loving them too, especially the second.
