Was Fallout 3 your introduction to the Fallout series?
Many criticisms against Fallout 3's story and writing is frankly ridiculous
Mfw guy defends a story that doesn't make sense in its setting and features no clear motivations with a character who dies and resurrects with no explanation and the main villain, an ai, can be talked into suicde with a plea to emotion. And where none of the characters have interesting personalities, beliefs, or anything to say.

Though I will say many "lore breaks" in this game are really only lore stretches at worst.

I just noticed I forgot to mention... Why does the Enclave in Fallout 3 have the radio station and place signs and posters to recruit/convince people that they are good guys... I mean... Why? They want to kill everyone in the wastes, so why are they wasting resources sending several eyebots with their radio into the wastes or making signs like this:

There is a reason to advertise yourself and promise a lot of good things to people. It is to make them like and support you... But what is the point when you will use a virus to wipe them all out quickly while they don't even know if you really exist or not?

The Enclave could have been a much better faction if the whole "poison everyone with FEV" bit was scrapped and just went with Autumn's plan to use the Purifier to rally support. While I still think the Enclave should have all died on the Rig (save the odd remnant) I think a new Enclave that had changed over the years could have been a much more interesting faction.

I find it funny that when criticizing Fallout 3 it basically boils down to "I don't like it" and/or "It makes no sense (to me)."

Not trying to pick a fight or start a discussion - just an observation.

I find it funny that when defending Fallout 3 story it boils down to the exact thing. "I like it" and/or "It makes sense (to me)" ;)
For example in most cases I have seen, the people who don't like it or consider it bad written do actually point out where and when it makes no sense, the plotholes, the things that seem/are bad or weak (like I pointed out some of those in my recent posts here). But on the other side it is rare to see many who defends the writing of the game say more than just "I like it" or "It makes sense to me".

Like I said before, I do actually enjoy playing the game, but I can see the shortcomings and weaknesses of it for many years now. And when one "plays" it over and over without any mods (besides TTW which improves the game a bit but doesn't change the writing/quests/etc) it is easy to see all the good and bad of it. :postviper:

Fallout 3 was my first Fallout game and I bloody loved it! Couldn't and can't get enough. Fallout NV was good for different reasons. 3 was my favorite between the two despite the story getting stuck in my craw.

Fallout 3 was my first Fallout game but it didn't really introduce me to the series since it was too average to hold my interest after beating it once. It was after playing Fallout New Vegas and enjoying that alot that I looked into the earlier games of the series.

Fallout 3 was my first Fallout. I was amazed by everything it did. It being the first open-world adventure game I ever touched, and the first Bethesda game I ever tried. It was the best time I’ve ever had in Fallout. I thought the story was compelling, the world was amazing and dynamic, karma was a great moral system, and the VATS mechanic was phenomenal.

Then I grew up.

My initial reaction.

Then I saw your last sentence:
Then I grew up.

Fallout 3 was also my first game, unfortunately.

It was.. and i was never able to play any elder scrolls again because i felt i was traped in some kinda of jail where the game had little consideration for my acts and choices.. or the consequences were disapointing.. so i always thought like... i could be playing fallout .. screw this!

Yeah, it was.

I remember not getting too much mileage out of it at first, though. Definitely spread a single playthrough out over the course of 2 years because I would get bored really fast. Got maybe 70ish hours out of it (give or take).

It was my first Fallout that I played and everyone I know personally who played Fallout( exception being my dad ). I really liked it, but after losing save file I hadn't had will to play again( in comparison to 1,2 and NV ).

After Failout I installed it again with some mods( FNNCQ, Quo Vagis and some perfomance mods ). It wasn't that bad, but amount of unanswered questions and headcanon was disaster at times. Overall I had good time( now I play TTW and it also isn't bad ).

Also story- as it's now- well it's shit. But huge parts are salvagable. Only changing time period and adding REAL motivations for characters makes it at least comparable to better Fallouts.
