Fallout 4 is such garbage I don't want to fix it

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
I joined here because I was going through the stages of grief in losing my favorite series. Well, I think I just made another step. It's not acceptence yet, but I no longer think 'mods can fix it.' You have to rewrite the whole fucking game because all the sidequests are fetch quest garbage. The main story makes no goddamn sense, Arthur Maxon's a Marty Stu, nothing about Boston makes sense. I've known for a long time, I didn't even want to learn how to mod to try and fix this turkey, but I don't even daydream writing a fixfic the way I toyed with one for Fallout 3.

Fixing Fallout 4, even for my own headcanon, just inside my own mind, is more trouble than it's worth. In fact, at this point, I'd need to be paid minimum wage to play Fallout 4 again, even with Sim Settlements. It's just....Fallout was more than a series for me. It was an inspiration, it made me question things, it made me want to be a force for good in the world. Maybe I should never have put the effort or a bit of my soul into these games but....maybe that's because Bethesda sure the fuck didn't.

Was it always supposed to be cheesy hipster garbage?! Am I only now getting the memo? Fallout 2 came close. But Fallout 1 and New Vegas? I took them very seriously, I felt they deserved it. I feel they still do.

Enjoy the old games and remember Fallout as 1,2 and New Vegas.

I went through the same thing with you, shitout 4, I was hyped beyond belief, expected a game like New Vegas but with better engine.

However after playing it for 60 hours I took off my hype googles and wrote a negative review. I gave it 5/10, which was me still not fully accepting it. Now I would give it 3/10 as a game.

Anyway, I recommend that you find a different franchise and a company that will not let you down for the time being. Something like witcher.

One advice I have got for you is: Never Get Hyped, Ever. Don't preorder, don't follow the development, wait for the game to come up and then see for yourself. It will save you a ton of money and grief.

With regards, Ediros

Yeah, the game is an abortion. And to think that I prayed a lot to not be equal to 3. Nowadays I wish it had been.

Thank you, and I will say, this was the first time I ever pre-ordered. I learned my lesson, I learned my lesson but GOOD.

Unfortunately no one wants to "fix" Fallout 4 due to the implemented game mechanics. Which I honestly can't blame them.

I have hear a lot of people comparing Fallout 4 with Fallout Brotherhood of Steel from the console, and I can see what they are getting at.

Fallout 4 is a streamlined linear grind-fest designed to soak up everyone's time with as little effort as possible. I completely understand your frustration with this title as a great many here at NMA consider it a franchise killer.

However I respectfully request that everyone take a step back from this and look at the larger picture here. Fallout 4 is a game designed to incur as much wealth as possible for it's developer. In that it is a success, and will most likely bear similar future titles designed around the same hollow mechanics that allowed Bethesda to churn this game out.

If we want to see change in the development of games then I would suggest finding a reasonably good RPG elsewhere and dumping your money into that. Only by supporting actually worth while games do those who are greedy redirect the flow of development.

Sadly, this is not the truth. There's already a mod that completely overhaul the entirety of dialogue system (removed/reworked the hardcoded 4-choices, cutscene-esque conversation, AND the voice acting). And then there's also Fallout: Cascadia which added skills back into the game. It's only a matter of time until modders once again fix it all.... or maybe they'll hit a brick wall, face first and hard, as CC become a prominent shenanigans with Bethesda's engine games.

Creation club is an insult to anyone with passion for hobby modding. I can see it turning into steam green light fairly quickly with people churning out poorly made mods just for some pocket change.

Either way if Bethesda continues to try and take advantage of the mod base for monetary gain its going to not only dilute their fan base even further. But set a truly horrible precedent for future titles and games outside of Bethesda's sphere of influence.

Aye. People were all "Paid DLC is fine if it adds more content, even if the price and amount of content doesn't match up", then we got games with day-1 DLC already on the disc. People were all "Cosmetic microtransactions are fine even if the game was paid for and it's not a freemium game", then we got games that cost money to buy and then have lootboxes and microtransactions on top of that shell price and collector's edition price.

At this rate, we're either going to encounter the next big gaming crash, or we'll be forced to go full China and put laws on gambling simulators, lootboxes, pay2win bullshit, microtransactions, and so on.

"It's all over but the crying"... Aptly chosen song for a franchise dying at the hands of a incompetent developer known as Bethesda.

AAA are trash, fortunately the few that I like (Sniper Elite, for example) you go there, play the game, finish and that's it. You do not need any of those shit that the developers try to push down in ours throats.

Do you think the guys that made Fallout 1, 2, and NV sometimes look at 3 and 4 and just... sort of... feel sad/angry?
No, it's just some of the fans of the original games feel that way, me included. Mostly because we hoped for something better than the new games made by Bethesda. I don't believe the devs care as much.

The Bugthesderp devs clearly don't care. The optional sidequest Beyond The Beef has more depth, care, logic, player choice, and roleplaying opportunity than the entirety of Fallouts 3 and 4 combined.

>inb4 someone brings up the Wasteland Survival Guide quest, in which you do five fetch quest-tier things, then give one of 4/5 answers or don't and say you did and give a bullshit answer, and the bonus-points perk you get at the end changes depending on what choices you give, because it's the closest thing the Bugthesderp Fallouts ever got to player choice mattering.

My problem with FO3 and 4 is that they aren't even filled with DC Blueses or Wasteland Survival Guides, but Kids in Fridges and Cabot Houses. I would even leave alone main story, if only bigger parts of their games were filled with such gems like those mentioned before or Oblivions Whodunit.
Really, Bethesda writers aren't that bad(I hope my examples weren't submited by some concept artist, like other things in FO4), they can create fun stories(not only notes and terminals). Problem is that these good quests are hidden under radiant quests, broken settlements, fetch quests, legendary bullet sponges and other shit.

May not mean they're bad writers, but Bethesda clearly writes for toddlers and maybe for people with 2 digit IQs. Well, at least, that's how I feel while playing their games. Obsidian did slightly better in FNV in terms of writing and quests, but in terms of game play, they sucked equally.

Obsidian did slightly better
Only slightly? Really?
in terms of game play, they sucked equally.
False. New Vegas vastly improved on the game play. Adding iron sights, adding new ammo types, fixing damage calculation, adding back traits... the only problem is the basis they were building from was the utter garbage fallout 3 on the garbage gamebryo engine...
