First time out of the vault
Hey Chosen,

I love the Fallout 2 restoration project, but felt Cassidy's voice that goes with his wonderful talking head added by the mod could do with a bit of an improvement.

I mean no offence to Adam Dravean who provided RP Cassidy's excellent default voice. I understand it was one of his first VO projects, but always thought it lacked the grit and southern drawl I heard in my head.

So, would you be interested in an alternate voice? I've had a bit of whiskey and a quick go at one. Let me know what you think:

Cheers,
Joey

How many lines are there anyway? If I remember right, re-recording all lines should be quite a lot work.

Personally I was never a fan of talking head Cassidy, but with @Continuum's talking head and new voiced lines, I might change my mind.

Although the first one, that was merged with RP was not bad at all, this one outshines the first Cassidy voice over. You should talk to @burn about preparing full voice over and RPU (a.k.a Restoration Project Update) implementation.

Yeah. This in combination with this talking head would be fancy. Actually not sure if that one is in latest RP already - the one in my mod folder is older and... not very good looking.

That's very good! I hope this is constructive for you:

Maybe you should change the pronunciation of "you" to be even more southern? It falls kind of flat the way you say it now. I mean the "you" at 0:07 but also the others.

Also the last sentence "you can miss it trust me" sound a bit monotone, kind of like a robot.

But this is really good! I think you can nail it! You definitely got something going.

e: I would most definitely play F2 with that VO

I love this one better than the last one. It feels more natural, and less "acted" than the currently used voice. (even if it is acted well) Although, some lines could benefit from a slower pace, for emphasis.

On the other hand, it would be a lot of recording, with the lines from the original+Restoration Project+Mutants Rising.

Mutants Rising is a completely different thing. I don't think it matters in this case here.

Yeah, but MR release is in like... years, so there is no point in worrying about VO right now.

Hi guys, thanks so much for your feedback :)

Nah, looks like there's only 61. Piece of cake if I can nail the voice.

The voice sounds like a true Texan wastelander, I like this alternative version.

Thank you so much!!

Sounds really good! When's the full mod coming?

ASAP when I figure out the filetypes and lipsyncing. If that's as trivial as I hope, should be pretty quick.

Definitely helpful, thanks. The 'you can't miss it...' bit was meant to be a bit flat, like he's rolling his eyes and trailing off, but I definitely get what you're saying. Thank you!

As for dodgy accent stuff, I'll try my best on the 'yous' etc, but I'm British, so might not be as natural as I'd like. So please do point out anything that sticks out.

Noted, and that was my first thought. Tough call though, since I've got feedback elsewhere that he should speak a little quicker and more impatiently, especially at first, since he looks like a real crusty no-nonsense kind of a fella. Trying to strike a balance here.

As for Mutants Rising, if there's additional lines for Cass in that and the team are interested, I'd love to provide more.

Thanks again guys. More on this soon :)

I need to check the audio files, your version of Cassidy sounds great. I'll get back to you...

You actually put words I haven't wrote into my mouth :p
Proletarian wrote that constructive criticism You've assigned to me :p

As for me I was all for it. Hit up @burn and contact him about this He'll probably be interested in this, as He's the one, working on updates to Fo2 Restoration Project post 2.3.3 release called RPU (as in Restoration Project Update ). I'f You ask Him nicely, He'll probably give You all the tools needed to convert your recordings to files Fo2 is operating on.

Lol oops sorry! Thanks @Proletären :)

Great advice gustar, I'll message @burn now :)

e: I don't seem able to mesasge burn on NMA, anyone know another way to get in touch?

@slick liquid
As for burn's response You'l probably have to be patient. Unfortuneatly burn comes only from time to time. I think that a simple @ before the nickname will be enaugh to lure him here.

As for my nickname it's not gustar-balls nor gus-tar-balls it's Gus Tarballs the old ranting black master mercenary from Jagged Alliance series.

The nickname was picked since I always rant about everything, My right winged friends tend to think that mentally I'm a slave, I tend to get hiered jobs rather than starting my own buisness (in my country mercenary and a hiered job are synonimes/acronimes). And I used to be medicore to good at things i did, and because of my ranting, everybody thinks that I whine like an old person, and I'm sort of a "jack of all trades" in real life as well as Tarballs was in Jagged Alliance 2. Hence Gus Tarballs was chosen as a way to represent myself on the interent XD .

EDIT:
I may not call every boss a "woody" but I usually think they're stupid/retarded, which usually is the case, and treat them accordingly. Same as Tarballs did in JA2 to the player.
So that choice couldn't be a miss..

Cool, thanks @gustarballs1983! I'll wait on @burn for a response.

Otherwise, I can get going recording all these files and getting them done in probably a day or two max, if only I could figure out from cassidy's dialogue file which lines are his and which come from the character. Formatting wise, it's a bit of a mess.

Anyone got any tips on this?

Hey guys.
1) It's indeed a very good Clint-Eastwoodish sound, as far as I'm concerned. Good recording, too. (My voice is at its roughest when I'm actually hangover, so maybe you could try that :)).
2) I'm not specifically looking to "enhance" RP. So far, I have my hands full just figuring out its bugs.
3) Everyone is able and welcome to submit pull requests at https://github.com/BGforgeNet/Fallout2_Restoration_Project.
4) There's plenty of people who are able to convert the voicing into FO2 format and submit a pull request. I trust that if there's demand, there will be supply.
5) Every (already) voiced line has a sound id it it - Cas0103, Cas0104 here:
Code:
{102}{}{You see an elderly man with deep wrinkles along his face. He nods at you.}
{103}{Cas0103}{Well, now. I ain't seen you around before, stranger. Name's Cassidy. I run this place. What can I do for you?}
{104}{Cas0104}{Well now, if it ain't the mysterious stranger. What can I do for you today?}
{105}{}{Ug Nog?}
Not every Cassidy's line has it, but these would be a good start. Anyway, the whole file is not that large.
