Is Baldurs gate 3 worth playing?

I never played the original. Is there anything i need to know? Should i play 1 and 2 first?

You should definitely 100% both games and replay it as each possible alignment (so 9 playthroughs) before even looking at the trailers for BG3. If you saw anything you've already ruined it for yourself. Just buy the new Madden game instead.

Seriously though, it likely does not matter since BG2 was released 20 years ago and this game won't be finished until at least 2021. I doubt they'd write up a story that really needs you to understand the smaller details of BG1 and 2. If they do bring up anything like that, they'd probably put in a reminder bit about something. I guess at worst, you just won't know a character is a returning one if they omit their previous involvements in the last two games.

In my opinion, don't think about it too much unless you have a particular interest in something about BG1 and 2 without the influence of 3.

You should absolutely Play Baldur's Gate 1 and 2. They are some of the best role playing games of all time and BG2 is my personal favorite game of all time.

Can't speak on Baldur's Gate 3 though.

This begs the question of why make it at all—if it hasn't any ties to the series' gameplay nor to the series campaign? This leaves only shameful exploitation of the name & reputation...while delivering none of it in the new product; exactly what Bethesda did with FO3. (IE. a bait & switch cash grab). They both made a sequel using an unrelated game as the template. In Bethesda's case, using Oblivion set in the Fallout IP, and Larian has made a Dragon Age clone set in the Forgotten Realms.
