Depends on whether or not Van Buren was a success or not.
Generally most franchises that are able to maintain steam end up capitulating to popular trends- for better or for worse, in order to maintain success.
Isometric RPGs are an extremely niche genre that really serve a very small portion of people who are into games. While you have seen a rise in popularity with CRPGs and whatnot because of games like D:OS 2, and POE- they'll still fail to reach the cultural relevance and popularity of games like Call of Duty, Skyrim, etc.
The barrier of entry for most CRPGs ends up being higher for most people who enjoy games, because when most people sit down to play games, they generally do it as a hobby and to blow off steam/pass time. Learning a video game adaptation of D&D or some House rules generally doesn't really interest the mass market crowd who don't have that much time or interest video games in the first place.
That's at least my view, and also why I haven't really played anything beyond really easy/simple games that require very little skill to learn the mechanics.
