Why is every new video game shit?

When you ̶h̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶i̶n̶s̶o̶m̶n̶i̶a̶ are a gamer in 2022, everything is a ̶c̶o̶p̶y̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶a̶ ̶c̶o̶p̶y̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶a̶ ̶c̶o̶p̶y̶ rehash of the sequel of the retconned reboot. The only two video games released in the last two years that have a story good enough to be even worth the bother of installing and playing are Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring. Sifu and Stray are interesting, but not altogether too impressive. Horizon Forbidden Dawn, Hitman 3, Total Warhammer 3 and Sniper Elite 5 might not be utter shit, but they innovate on absolutely nothing and are just sequels to unremarkable games themselves. Everything else is fundamentally e-waste.

I swear that I do a lot of searching to know about all of the games that are being released all of the time, I am more or less acquainted with every PC game released since 1995 that isn't some truly obscure arthouse piece or jam game (although I have played a lot of games of those two types as well), but the amount of games that actually peak my interest has been sharply dropping since 2017.

I hate to say it but those games might be shit but every game is not shit you might just have shit taste or something. Atom RPG (my new fav I will talk about a lot) is basically Fallout in Russia and some people here did not even know about it. I am shocked.

The 2004 top is supposed to be the good games? Because there's only a couple of good games in that list.

I see a mix of everything - good, bad, middling, pure shits...

Games are all a bit of a hotch potch. I am playing Hitman17 and FIFA 23. FIFA 23 is cool, it has Ray Tracing lens flares that dazzle the away supporters. Alone in The Dark 14 is played daytime ffs.

Moore's Law now works in reverse. 10 un-optimised games fill 1TB hard drive.

Sunless Sea, Don't Starve, and Civilization 5 got me through a large chunk of time in between 2012-2017.

I got Sunless Sea as a freebie from GOG. Part 2 Sunless Skies.

This applies to a lot of games you posted from 2004, most of them don't do anything new and are just okay at best (like Far Cry 1 and Mortal Kombat Deception).

Half Life 1 is just better than 2, Halo 1 is just better than 2, Metroid Prime 1 is definitely better than 2 by a country mile.

And you have fucking Shark Tale in that image.

Vampire Bloodlines, GTA San Andreas, Rome Total War, Warhammer Dawn of War, NFS Underground 2, Fable, SM Pirates!, Half Life 2 and Chronicles of Riddick are all masterpieces. Anyone with a bad enough taste not to recognize that has outed themselves as CT Phillips alt account. xD

I didn't edit the image to reinforce my point though. Those are just a collage of the actual first things that pops up on google when you search 'Video Games 2004' vs 'Video Games 2022'. 2004 clearly has a lot more memorable games even at a glance without any need for biased manipulation.

Vampire Bloodlines
I love it but it's major jank and clearly unfinished. Plus not really any better than some recent RPGs like Atom and Underrail.

Never got the appeal of this game. Mediocre combat mixed with completely black and white morality, plus it's too easy.

Half Life 2
Again, Half Life 1 is the much better game in my opinion. Half Life 2 is the game that for me has gotten worse and worse with age. Those so lauded "cutscenes where you can still move" are still cutscenes that you have to wait to get a move on and the game is filled with them. The guns are also trash, with the SMG possibly the worst i have ever seen in a FPS. The AI is absolutely retarded with the Combine standing in the open like dumbasses unlike the soldiers in the first game which are actually pretty smart, specially for 1998.

Yeah, put me in the camp of people with bad taste because i don't think this game is nowhere near a masterpiece. A solid game, sure, but nowhere as good as the first game.

Have you actually played any of the games from 2022 that you claim are shit? Pretty hard to remember any game if you don't even play it or don't follow people that do play it. And for me personally, i don't remember half of the games from 2004 in that picture.

And oh god, just noticed that the 2004 pic has Fallout Brotherhood of Steel.

Other than the 2004 vs 2022 comparison, it's because the Triple A Mainstream side of the Gaming Industry is dead! If not dead, it's DEFINITELY on life support.

Honestly, i have stopped caring about most of triple AAA mainstream for years now, so i don't really care if it's dead or close to dead. Plenty of indie and mid size studios making quality games today. Nintendo also occasionally releases some good stuff like Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

Yep, indies are now the way to go! And yeah surprisingly even Nintendo is still doing pretty good.

In no small part it's because you are jaded. There are crappy trends right now though, I agree. Whatever happened to 3d platformers for example.

VtMBloodclaaarts has a far bigger modding and fan based patch community than here ! I played it unpatched. Early Patched and then a late patch with restored or added parts. All were cool as . No idea how many updates from the last time I played it about 5 or 6 years ago.

A lot of single player games go for a cinematic experience while removing every 'inconvenience' to the player, which makes games feel less like games and more like bullshit. Also makes games too same-y.

Are you a priest maxi?

Maxi Priest joke, for people that don't get it.

There are more games than ever being released, and believe it or not, some of them are quite good.

People think they know everything until they don't. I used to think good games were not being made. Turns out I just was trying to play the same boring type of games over and over.

Try Barotrauma. It's pretty unique.
