Fallout 2 mod Fallout Sonora 1.15 and Sonora Dayglow 1.15 Vanilla Translation

@NovaRain - That CCNina.ssl had a lot of issues. The macro already contains the check for GVAR_SANTAANA_QST_DIALOG, so I think the whole if block can be replaced by the macro, unless I am missing something.

This script also has two somewhat mutually exclusive paths, the spanish and english ones. I need to make sure the macro doesn't cross them over.

Nice catch on the '260' also. - fixed now.

Hi @Cambragol , are you planning for a release of the updated translation (without CE)?
It would be nice to get one, it seems you fixed a lot since v1.04.

When doing the Sonora BoS quests where you fight Bandits, I have seen some Spanish "text above npc" be missing punctuation or not seemed to make sense. I wasn't able to screenshot them. Is there a place where I can take a look at those texts and provide feedback?

Edit: Bandits (not Raiders)

@fanboy - Yes, I am thinking one last release before I go full English version. However, I am on the fence, and tied up with coding on Fallout 2 CE at the moment. There have been a lot of fixes, but I will have to sit down and carefully pull together the release, as it has been some time, and the process is prone to error.

@DweltVauller - this is the place to report any feedback. The Spanish translations have their special characters removed currently, but I have overcome that technical hurdle long ago, so eventually I can add them back. However, if there are nonsensical Spanish, please post here. I did have a Spanish speaker go over them, so I would hope there was nothing too serious.

I took some notes. I want to clarify I do not speak Mexican-Spanish, but these expresions sound too neutral. I am puting some examples but I would suggest finding a Mexican to add more context or juice.

1) ¡Aplastémolos como cucarachas!

This is the only expresion that I found correctly punctuated (tilde and start bang) but it is missing an S.

I also think it does not go well with the Fallout lore (cucaracha = roach) as they are always making fun of pre-bomb animals. For example, the single headed brahmin. I would like to propose "cuca-rads" or some other variation others can suggest, I cant think of a better option.

2) Detente o disparare.

9) Bajate, miserable cucaracha!
¡Al suelo, miserable cuca-rad!

10) Aun no has visto a nuestro ejercito.
Todavía no ves ni la mitad de lo que somos, carnal.

Fixes without changing expressions:

  • ¡Aplastémoslos como cucarachas!
  • ¡Detente o dispararé!
  • Me recompensarán por tu cabeza.
  • ¿Quieres más?
  • Te mostraré lo que es una verdadera batalla.
  • Solo un tonto se metería en nuestro territorio.
  • Yo mismo te mataré.
  • Por los espías dan grandes recompensas.
  • ¡Bájate, miserable cucaracha!
  • Aún no has visto a nuestro ejército.

I am sure there are more but these were the ones I took notes of.

Thanks @DweltVauller - I'll have to ask @OnlyALad when he pops in again. He was working on the Spanish translation, which was nearly done. I could sync/compare those with his.

A bit of a hassle, but I may have to go back and add in the Spanish punctuation too.

I just wanted to pop in to thank everyone for their work. The translation is very very good and the "mod" is godlike. Playing this on my summer vacation after waiting for two years for the translation and oh boy was it worth it.

@Cambragol let me know if you need any help with that. Is there any way to access the (text) files? I can help updating them.

Awesome. Very glad you are enjoying the mod. Too bad there isn't an easy way to let Nevada Band know their efforts are appreciated. I have to agree, the mod is godlike. Slides right in between Fallout 1 and 2.

@DweltVauller - I will likely be able to handle that eventually. If I recall correctly Google Translate can be used to restore the punctuation quickly. Accessing the files can be done through the .dat or at the repository (a little outdated, but not for Spanish entries) here

@Cambragol A few more translation bugs for ya:

NCSherif:
{318}{}{Maybe...maybe... I had some other quesitons though.}

FCCrvBos:
{335}{}{I had a few quesitons before we head out.}
(might've already reported that one)

Hermosillo:
Dominguez's children seem to be supposed to have a dialog (HCRunchC), but in game for me they display red `Error` (as floating text, not actual dialog). I got one dialog tree with Dominguez displaying "Error" as well, though most of that dialog worked fine.

Santa Ana:
After killing El Diablo and ascending to the church, I had one `Error` entry from Hilario (CCBoss). Have a save game at this exact spot if helpful. Not sure exactly which line, but might be one of these:

{230}{}{What are you doing here, you damn gringo?! How dare you desecrate our sanctuary?!}
{231}{}{Don't worry, old man. The monster in the basement is dead. You have nothing to fear anymore.}
{232}{}{D-dead?! (confused) You... WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!!!}
{1232}{}{D-dead?! (confused) You... WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!!!}

In general, I'm finding fewer issues with the translations later in the game. Well done!

Thanks @malaise_chalk - the first was already fixed, but the second were missing 'feminine' versions for spanish.

EDIT: Actually, I found Hilario's error, but I can't find Dominguez'. All his messages line up with the script.
